Dear Friend,
Welcome back to the McBride Memo, where I share five quick updates from the past week — perfect for your morning cup of coffee. With Congress still in recess, I have been spending time in my favorite place in the world, Delaware!
1. One big thing: This week, we celebrated 100 days since I was sworn into Congress! When you sent me to Washington, I promised to work with anyone willing to get results for Delawareans—and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. From restoring funding for manufacturers to defending seniors and caregivers, we’re building a government that works for all of us. Read the full update here.

2. Driving the news: This week, we’ve watched Trump and his administration all but abandon our allies in Europe in the fight for democracy in Ukraine. Our global leadership depends on our willingness to stand with our partners and push back against authoritarianism. When we allow countries like Russia to chip away at our allies’ independence, we not only weaken international stability—we put our own democracy at risk.
3. ICYMI: I was thrilled to host the Congressional Art Competition Reception this week at the Bridge Art Gallery in Wilmington! The CAC celebrates high school artists across the country—and Delaware students showed up with incredible talent. Congrats to:
- Grace Huang – First Place (her piece will hang in the U.S. Capitol!)
- Sofia Corona-Flores – Second Place
- Aminah Mwangi – Third Place
Their artwork (and that of nine other finalists) showcases the creativity and vision of young Delawareans. You can see the winning art work and learn more about the winners here!
4. Legislative priority: Even while Congress is in recess, we continue to work hard to push back against this Administration’s actions against our federal workforce. Trump has stripped away the collective bargaining protections guaranteed to over one million federal workers and, this week, I co-sponsored a bipartisan bill aimed at restoring their rights and fighting back against federal union-busting. I’ll keep fighting to restore workplace protections and support the civil servants who power our government every day.
5. Our state of neighbors: Spending this week with Delawareans has been energizing. Here are a few highlights from the past few days across the First State:
-
Tomorrow: Town Hall with Delaware Statewide Elected Officials
Saturday, April 26 | 10:30 AM–12:00 PM
In-person registration is full, but you can still tune in via Senator Coons’ YouTube livestream.
-
Tour of BioTek ReMEDys: A Delaware-grown infusion therapy provider helping patients with rare diseases get care—affordably, safely, and close to home. Thank you to Chai Gaddes and team for your innovation and compassion!
-
Biotech Innovation with NIIMBL: I joined Senator Coons at NIIMBL at UD’s STAR Campus to celebrate a national report on biotechnology and national security. Delaware continues to lead in bio-manufacturing and workforce development.
-
Supporting Small Businesses: At a roundtable with the Delaware Small Business Development Center in Newark, we discussed the need to protect SBA funding, improve access to capital, and boost cybersecurity for local entrepreneurs.
- Visiting Milford Wellness Village: What once was Bayhealth Hospital is now a vibrant community health and elder care hub. Programs like PACE Your LIFE are keeping seniors connected and cared for—while creating over 700 local jobs.
- Housing and Dignity in Milford: At People’s Place, I met with advocates helping Delawareans facing homelessness and housing insecurity. We talked about protecting emergency housing programs and investing in wraparound services. Policy is personal—it’s about safety, dignity, and stability.

I promise I try to keep these short—but when you love Delaware as much as I do, and you spend a week meeting extraordinary people doing life-changing work, it’s hard to hold back.
Stay in touch, and I'll do the same. |

- Help navigating a federal agency: If you can't get an answer from a federal agency in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, our office may be able to help resolve a problem or get you the information you need. While we cannot guarantee you a favorable outcome, we will do our best to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem. If you need help navigating a federal agency, please visit: mcbride.house.gov/services/help-federal-agency
- Has Medicaid impacted your life? 1 in 4 Delawareans receive health care coverage from Medicaid. In Delaware, the federal government pays 60% of the cost of traditional Medicaid and 90% of the cost of Medicaid expansion. Our office is collecting stories from Delawareans about their access to Medicaid as Republicans in Congress continue to advance proposals to cut this life-saving program. Submit your story here.
