August 2022 Veterans' Resources Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

August is filled with celebrations for our veteran community! During this month, the United States Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard were all established. To our veterans from Florida's Third Congressional District who served in any of these three branches, we extend a special thank you for your service this month.

As always, we welcome your feedback about what you read here, and if there are any events or announcements you'd like to see featured, reach out to us by clicking here. You can also check our website for new updates on our Veterans' Services tab. And as always, if you're a veteran in FL-03 in need of assistance with any veterans-related issues, please call our Gainesville office at 352-505-0838.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

In Liberty,

VA Home Loans & Housing-Related Programs

VA helps servicemembers, veterans, and eligible surviving spouses become homeowners. As part of the VA's mission to serve you, they provide home loan guaranty benefits and other housing-related programs to help you buy, build, repair, retain, or adapt a home for your own personal occupancy. VA Home Loans are provided by private lenders, such as banks and mortgage companies. VA guarantees a portion of the loan, enabling the lender to provide you with more favorable terms.

VA Priority Groups: What Are They?

Image

When you apply for VA health care, you are assigned to 1 of 8 priority groups. This system helps to make sure that veterans who need care right away can get signed up quickly. It also helps to make sure the VA can provide high quality care to all veterans enrolled in the VA health care program.

The VA will base your priority group on:

  • Your military service history
  • Your disability rating
  • Your income level
  • Whether or not you qualify for Medicaid
  • Other benefits you may be receiving (like VA pension benefits)

You can learn more about VA priority groups here or by clicking the button below.

Understanding VA Debt

Image

You could owe money to the VA for different reasons. These are 2 of the most common reasons:

  • Copayments: You received care at a VA health facility and you're in a priority group that requires you to pay copayments.
  • Benefit overpayments: The VA paid you, or your school, more than you were eligible to receive for a VA benefit payment. This type of debt is often referred to as an overpayment.

You can learn more about why you may owe the VA money and how to check your balance here or by clicking the button below.

Checking Your Request Through The National Personnel Records Center

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) is one of the National Archives and Records Administration's (NARA) largest operations. They are the central repository of personnel-related records for both the military and civil services of the United States Government, and provide world class service to government agencies, military veterans and their family members, former civilian Federal employees, and the general public.

Using this tool, you can make a new request for a veteran's records or check the status of existing request.

Scheduling Appointments Through My HealtheVet

Image

With VA appointments tools, you can schedule some VA health care appointments online. You can also view details about upcoming appointments and organize your health calendar.

If you are enrolled in VA health care, you can access your appointments that are from your official VA medical record. The VA Appointments feature lets you check your VA and community care appointment date, time, and type (telephone, video, in-person). Community care appointments are set up for you by the VA. You can also add non-VA appointments to the Health Calendar.

You can learn more about online scheduling here or by clicking the button below.
