Introducing The JASON Act & Republicans' 'Commitment To America' Plan

Dear Neighbor,

This week, I introduced the the Justified Action for Securing Our Nation (JASON) Act, which would grant the DHS Secretary the authority to block migrant entires in the event of a border surge. It's been nearly two years since Biden first took office, and as a result, we have a border crisis like we've never seen in our nation's history to show for it. I'm taking action to stop the surge with my Republican colleagues—enough is enough.

Additionally, I joined several of my colleagues in Pittsburgh, PA this morning to announce the GOP's 'Commitment to America,' our plan to set our nation on the right path after the last four years of failed congressional leadership in Washington, D.C. Americans simply can't afford living under Democrats' one-party rule any longer, and we're laying out exactly what we plan to do to remedy the litany of crises they've created.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

Introducing The JASON Act

Image

Yesterday, I was proud to introduce the Justified Action for Securing Our Nation (JASON) Act. The bill is named after a Customs and Border Protection agent who inspired the legislation and has dealt with the influx of migrants at the southern border for the last 21 months.

This bill explicitly provides the Secretary of Homeland Security with the authority to block the entry of migrants into the U.S. when certain conditions are met. When I speak to agents at the border, they all agree they don't need more money—they need more resources to prevent the mass influx of migrants. That's exactly what the JASON Act does, and I'm fighting with my Republican colleagues to secure the border with this bill.

Terrorist Encounters At Border Reach All-Time High As FY22 Nears Its End

Image

As of August 31, 78 people whose names appear on the Terrorist Screening Dataset (TSDS) were stopped trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border between ports of entry this fiscal year. This is triple the number of terrorist encounters from the last five years combined.

The crisis at our southern border is only growing more intense and it's no thanks to the Biden administration, which refuses to believe there's anything wrong at the border in the first place. This is an absolute dereliction of duty and it should scare every single American.

Revealing GOP 'Commitment To America' Plan

Image

This morning, House Republicans launched our Commitment to America, our plan to set our nation on the right path after the last four years of failed congressional leadership in Washington, D.C. Our plan prioritizes the American people and delivers solutions to the issues that have been kitchen table topics for far too long. Under the Commitment to America, we’re committed to:

  • An economy that’s strong
  • A nation that’s safe
  • A future that’s built on freedom
  • A government that’s accountable

It’s time to get to work and show the American people that change is on the way in January. Check out my interview with Lawrence Jones and my colleagues Congressman Burgess Owens and Congressman Jim Jordan.

Meeting With Florida's Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez In Washington, D.C.

Image

Yesterday, Florida's Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez stopped by our Washington, D.C. office during a busy day on Capitol Hill! Lt. Gov. Nunez is a champion for the Sunshine State and works hard on behalf of Floridians to make our state the freest in the nation. She's been visiting with members of the Florida delegation, and we're certainly fortunate to have her leadership in Tallahassee.

Calling On The DoD To Investigate Racially Divisive Comments By Senior Official

Image

This week, I joined my Florida colleague Rep. Scott Franklin in his letter to the DoD addressing Kelisa Wing's particularly egregious statements. Her racially divisive rhetoric as the Chief of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the DoD is highly concerning. In a role so senior within our military, Wing's history of publicly weaponizing the police and promoting 'white privilege' are serious offenses that Secretary Austin must investigate immediately.

Attending The Taiwan Agricultural Trade Goodwill Mission Signing Ceremony

Image

Last week, I stopped by the 2022 Taiwan Agricultural Trade Goodwill Mission signing ceremony with the Deputy Minister of Taiwan’s Council of Agriculture. Taiwan’s purchase of corn, soy beans, and wheat from the U.S. will generate more than $3.2B. I'm proud to support Taiwan as a strong ally to the United States.

Questioning Witnesses About Rural Water Utilities During Committee Hearing

Image

In Wednesday's Homeland Security Committee hearing, I asked witnesses about rural water utilities in the United States. As water systems in the U.S. become more technologically advanced, rural communities are left vulnerable to cyberattacks. It is widely known that these smaller communities struggle with water infrastructure, so I asked witnesses how these areas can adapt to current technology and protect themselves against bad actors.
