Wrapping Up The 117th Congress

Dear Neighbor,

This week, the House of Representatives convened for the second-to-last time as the 117th Congress comes to a close. We will return to Washington, D.C. just before Christmas to vote on government funding next week.

This week I sent a letter to the House Appropriations Committee on behalf of specialty crop farmers from Florida who have faced immense hardships over the past two years with rising costs, supply chain issues, Hurricane Ian, and more. You can read more about it below!

As we look ahead to Republicans entering the majority in January, we're going to tackle the litany of crises we've experienced under this administration, including inflation, the border crisis, gas prices, and more. The one-party rule in Washington is coming to a swift close, and this administration should be prepared for what we've got planned.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

In Liberty,

Receiving "Pioneer For Prosperity" Award From Americans For Prosperity

Image

It was an honor to receive the Pioneer for Prosperity Award from Americans for Prosperity this week! We've worked hard over the last two years to oppose the congressional Democrats' reckless spending agenda and to champion policies that empower people and make our nation stronger. Thank you to the AFP team at home in Florida for all of your hard work to keep the Sunshine State free.

There's so much more to come in January—stay tuned!

Holding Biden Administration Accountable For Border Crisis In 118th Congress

Image

On Wednesday, I joined Newsmax to discuss the Biden administration's reckless handling of our southern border. When it comes to national security, this administration never had a plan, other than to have a completely open border that allows million of illegal immigrants to enter our nation. Criminals, terrorists, and traffickers have had free rein under Secretary Mayorkas, and he should better be prepared to face impeachment for the health, humanitarian, and national security crises he created along our border.

Urging Relief For Florida's Specialty Crop Producers

Image

Producers in the state of Florida have been hit hard this year, battling inflation, supply-chain issues, the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, and more. This week, my colleague Rep. Darren Soto and I led a bipartisan letter urging relief for our state’s specialty crop farmers who have been operating under steep A&O costs. With the FY2023 Agricultural appropriations budget still underway, we’re working to ensure that specialty crop insurance policies are no longer tied to this A&O cap.

Saying Goodbye To Our Fall 2022 Interns

Image

Today we say goodbye to the last of our Fall '22 interns! Jack and Laila have been working hard for Florida's Third Congressional District since September, serving constituents on the phones, with Capitol tours, and with other projects around the office. Jack will be returning home to the Sunshine State while Laila begins a new full-time opportunity in D.C. with Congressman Clay Higgins of Louisiana's Third.

Please join us in thanking them for their hard work as they take their next steps. Thank you, Jack and Laila!

Celebrating 386 Years Of The U.S. National Guard

Image

This week, we celebrated 386 years of the National Guard! The establishment of the National Guard marked the beginning of an organized militia in the United States, tasked with responding to domestic emergencies, overseas combat missions, counterdrug efforts, reconstruction missions, and more.

Please join me in wishing the National Guard and all our Florida's Third guardsmen a happy birthday!

Honoring Green Cove Springs Chief Derek Asdot

Image

On Saturday December 10, 2022, the Green Cove Springs Police Department was named, Chief Derek S. Asdot Memorial Building. This dedication honors the life and impact Chief Derek S. Asdot made to our community and all the lives that he touched.

Chief Asdot was an amazing father and husband, and a consummate law enforcement professional. His loss last year was tough, especially for those of us lucky enough to call the Chief a friend. To see his name on the side of the GCSPD's HQ is a fitting tribute to a man who meant so much to so many.

Hosting The Doughtery Family

Image

This past week, we were so glad to welcome the Doughtery Family from Florida's Third Congressional District to the U.S. Capitol! Their grandfather, USAF Ret. Colonel James F. Dougherty, Jr., was buried at Arlington National Cemetery and the family was in town to pay tribute and honor the occasion. It was an honor to attend the military ceremony at Arlington and to pay our respects to an incredible American hero.

If you're visiting our nation's capital and would like to visit the U.S. Capitol during your stay, reach out to us and request a tour. We'd love to see you!
