| New Republican Majority Hits The Ground Running During First Official Week Of 118th Congress |
|
|
Monday marked the start of the first official workweek of the 118th Congress, and the new Republican majority wasted no time in delivering on our agenda. Just in the last few days, House Republicans fired 87,000 IRS agents, established a Select Committee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government and a Select Committee on the Competition Between the U.S. and China, and upheld the value and sanctity of life with the passage of my bill, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
Throughout the next two years, I'm committed to serving my constituents in Florida’s Third Congressional District by working to provide relief for the American people. This Congress, we're pleased to welcome Baker, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, and Suwannee Counties to join Alachua, Bradford, Marion, and Union Counties. In the new Republican majority, I'm looking forward to supporting our nation’s agriculture industry, increasing access to rural broadband, getting our economy back on track, securing the border, protecting our constitutional rights, and more.
With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. |

Congresswoman Kat Cammack Announces Selection To The House Committee On Energy And Commerce For The 118th Congress

I'm honored to announce that this week I was selected by the House Republican Steering Committee to serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee for the 118th Congress. The Committee on Energy and Commerce, established in the 1795, is the oldest standing legislative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and is vested with the broadest jurisdiction of any congressional authorizing committee.
This is a huge victory for Florida's Third Congressional District, as almost 80 percent of all legislation passed out of the House runs through the Committee. We're looking forward to hitting the ground running in renewing our energy independence, holding big tech accountable, stopping the opioid crisis, and promoting free markets, innovation, free speech, and individual freedom.

Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act Overwhelmingly Passes House

Last night, after years of waiting for House Democrats to take the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act to the Floor, House Republicans wasted no time and delivered its passage. Upholding the value and sanctity of life has been a personal mission for me, and this bill plays a key role in affirming what the American people have always known: life is sacred.
It's an honor to lead on this bill with my colleagues Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Congresswoman Ann Wagner. You can listen to my floor speech on this bill by clicking on the image above.

Rep. Cammack Introduces REINS Act To Limit Government Overreach

On Wednesday, I introduced the Regulations From the Executive in Need of Security Act (REINS Act). The REINS Act limits executive overreach and protects Americans from burdensome regulations. Republicans’ Commitment to America promised the American people that we would hold our government accountable in the new majority. That’s exactly what this bill does.
I’m thrilled to introduce this legislation with the support of Whip Rep. Tom Emmer, Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan, Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer, and over 170 of my Republican colleagues. Thank you to all who signed on in support of this bill.

House Passes Reformed Rules Package For 118th Congress

The House Rules package passed Monday night is the most transparent the American people have seen in decades. This package was agreed to on January 1st before the Speaker race took place. For far too long, this body has been operating under a set of rules that simply do not make sense.
However, with the major changes this package has brought forth, including introducing only single-issue bills, providing members with 72 hours to review legislation before voting, and eliminating proxy voting, this package is a HUGE win for the American people.
It’s far past time transparency and trust returned to Washington, D.C, and Republicans have only just begun to deliver on this promise.

House Republicans Vote To Defund IRS & Fire 87,000 Agents

Democrats’ disastrous policies were put to the test in November, and of their massive spending bills included one of the most egregious—funding the IRS with $80 BILLION to audit American taxpayers. On Tuesday night, the new Republican majority delivered on our Commitment to America by firing 87,000 IRS agents. |

Mary Sue Rich Community Center At Reed Place Opens In Ocala

This week, members of Team Kat attended the grand opening of the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place in Ocala. The brand new two-story center is named in honor of former Ocala City Council member Mary Sue Rich and Ruth. E. Reed, who both played critical roles in the development of the project. Jeannie, our Economic Development Coordinator, attended the ceremony and presented a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol and proclamations in the Congressional Record to both Ms. Rich and Mrs. Reed.
We're so excited to see the how the center will benefit the City of Ocala and its residents, and we thank Ms. Rich and Mrs. Reed for their honorable service to the community. |

Rep. Cammack Joins Varney & Co. To Discuss 118th Rules Package

This week, I joined Varney & Co. on Fox Business to discuss the recently passed House rules package and the Republican agenda in the 118th Congress. The American people put a check on our government when they voted in a new, Republican majority in the House of Representatives in November, and we've only just begun to deliver on our promises.
Over the next two years, my colleagues and I are prepared to revitalize the economy, bring back affordability, secure our southern border, hold our government accountable, and so much more.

More 'Kat In The News' |
Over 130 House Republicans are set to introduce legislation to rein in federal regulations that cost taxpayers trillions of dollars every year and are the "silent killer" of the American dream. The Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act, or the REINS Act, is a bill that Republicans have pushed for years, and one they will try again to pass now that Republicans control the House. "When you think about all the challenges that we're facing as a nation, from our national security concerns to hyperinflation the thing that no one talks about is the regulatory environment," Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., told Fox News Digital.

House Republicans on Wednesday delivered on their vow to bring pro-life legislation to the House floor, voting unanimously to pass a bill that would strengthen protections for babies who survive attempted abortions. The measure, called the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” passed 220–210. All Republicans voted in favor of it, while two Democrats, Reps. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez, both of South Texas, defected from their party, voting in favor of the bill and “present,” respectively. Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) cited in a floor speech Wednesday what she said were eight instances in her home state of babies living through abortions.

Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., reintroduced a bill Monday that would replace the current federal tax structure with a national consumption tax and lead to the elimination of the Internal Revenue Service. The bill would eliminate all personal and corporate income taxes, the death tax, gift taxes, and the payroll tax, with the national consumption tax to be administered by the states. "I'm very proud to once again co-sponsor the Fair Tax Act," said Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla. "We've seen a continued growth of the IRS and a persistent punishment of hardworking Americans via the tax code. What we're calling for is a simplified and fair code that works for all, not just some."
