| Back In Florida's Third For First Official District Workweek Of 118th Congress |
|
|
I returned back home to the Sunshine State this week for the first official district workweek of the 118th Congress. With the addition of Baker, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, and Suwannee Counties to our district, our team is excited to serve our new and existing constituents in Florida's Third and continue representing the Gator Nation.
This Tuesday, a project close to my heart finally came to fruition with the official designation of the Andrew K. Baker Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic. Words truly cannot describe what it means to have been a part of this project, and I’m forever grateful for the time I was able to spend with Ms. Tina Baker and her family while working to honor her husband’s distinguished legacy of service.
With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. |

Urging The DEA & CBP To Designate Xylazine A Severe Threat

Xylazine, also known as the "zombie drug," is now being smuggled across our borders. This week, I joined my colleagues Rep. Jim Banks and Rep. August Pfluger in sending a letter to the DEA and CBP, urging them to properly designate this deadly substance—a combination of animal tranquilizers with fentanyl—as a severe threat. This surging fentanyl crisis has been left to wayside by this administration, and Republicans won't stand for it.

Putting Pressure On Biden To Bring Ridge Alkonis Home To U.S.

Ahead of President Biden’s meeting with Prime Minister Kishida last week, I joined Senator Mike Lee and Rep. Michael Waltz requesting the expedited transfer of Navy Lt. Ridge Alkonis to the United States from Japan. The Alkonis family has waited long enough. It's time to bring Ridge home and return him to his loved ones. |

Middleburg VA Clinic Officially Designated Andrew K. Baker Department Of Veterans Affairs

Tuesday was a momentous day for Florida's Third because the Middleburg VA Clinic was officially designated the Andrew K. Baker Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic. It was truly incredible to see this project finally come to fruition after years of work and I’m honored to have been able to work so closely with Ms. Tina Baker, the widow of Chief Baker, while striving to carry on her husband’s distinguished legacy.
Thank you to all who helped make this dream a reality, and a very special thanks to Andrew K. Baker Jr., Chief Baker's son, for delivering such special remarks during the ceremony. Next month, he will deploy overseas to a combat zone where he will carry on the family legacy of distinguished service to our nation.
You can watch a short video of the ceremony here. |

Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Legacy In Ocala

On Monday, I was honored to join dozens of our Marion County neighbors at the Martin Luther King, Jr. wreath laying ceremony at MLK Jr. Memorial Park in Ocala. Such an uplifting program with community members who came together to honor and remember Dr. King’s legacy, his service, and his message. Thank you to the City of Ocala, the event participants, and the event organizers for putting such a memorable ceremony together for this important day. |

Rep. Cammack Joins The Faulkner Focus To Discuss The Biden Document Scandal

This week, I joined the Faulkner Focus on Fox News to discuss the DOJ's handling of the files found in Biden's Wilmington residence. The White House’s response to this scandal has been absolutely abysmal, and yet, do we expect anything less? Highly classified files were found in Biden’s personal garage, but the DOJ is handling the search with kid gloves.
Can you hear the hypocrisy ringing in Washington?

More 'Kat In The News' |
President Biden's "open-border policies" are being called out in the wake of a "cartel-style" execution of a teenage mother and her baby, which California law enforcement believes is either drug cartel or gang-related. Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said on "America Reports" Wednesday that soft-on-crime policies in the state and the "unsecured, open border" are leading to more crime...Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., said the "horrific murders" and young people being "trafficked" all over the United States are because of the open-border policies. Cammack said on "The Faulkner Focus" that the cartels "control 40% of Mexico as we know it," including critical parts of the government and infrastructure. She said the cartels "subcontract out" murders and other nefarious activities to gangs in the U.S.

Chief Petty Officer Andrew "Drew" Baker had to stop several times Tuesday when he talked about his father Andrew K. Baker. At one point, his emotions were so shaken, the standing-room-only audience at the Veterans Affairs Clinic broke into applause. His father died in a Navy SEAL training accident 25 years ago, but it did little to dull his feelings...The VA was asked to determine if Clay County needed a veterans clinic in 2012. After three failed attempts, one was approved in 2015. But the battle was just getting started. "We had a lot of challenges, setbacks and success," said U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, who represented District 3 and Clay County when the project was approved. Holy buckets it was hard to get it considered, much less get it completed." Cammack also fought emotions, but she focused on Baker’s wife, Tina. "This has been a long time coming," Cammack said. "Tina, we got it done."

U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., announced this week that she is staying on the U.S. House Agriculture Committee. Cammack will be the only Republican from the Florida delegation on the committee. "It's an honor to serve a second term on the Agriculture Committee," said Cammack. "2023 is a big year for the committee with the 2023 Farm Bill heading our way. The Farm Bill will prioritize the needs of our farmers, ranchers, and foresters who work hard each day to feed, clothe, and fuel our nation. After the last two years of labor shortages, supply chain challenges, and soaring prices, I’m looking forward to joining my colleagues to put the needs of our producers and rural communities first. "Florida is a top producer of dozens of commodities and I’m proud to continue championing the issues that matter most to the Sunshine State. I traveled all over the state during the last Congress to learn more about the challenges facing our rural communities and look forward to continuing these trips to ensure we’re responsive, focused, and equipped to deliver," Cammack added.
