Field Hearings In McAllen Texas, Stopping Taxpayer-Funded Trafficking, Birthday Celebrations & More

This week, the House Committee on Energy & Commerce held its first field hearing in McAllen, Texas, addressing the public health crisis at the southern border created by President Biden's open-border policies. I pressed the Democrat witness about the deadly fentanyl showing up in communities nationwide and how the drug crisis in America is connected to the southern border. Her response was shocking, to say the least.

Additionally, I joined Senator Marsha Blackburn in introducing the Stop Taxpayer Funding of Traffickers Act in the House. The bill stops American taxpayer dollars from going to government services provided to drug and human traffickers awaiting prosecution and conviction. You can learn more about the Stop Taxpayer Funding of Traffickers Act below.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay updated with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For Freedom,

This week, I joined Senator Marsha Blackburn in introducing the Stop Taxpayer Funding of Traffickers Act in the House. The bill stops American taxpayer dollars from going to government services provided to drug and human traffickers awaiting prosecution and conviction.

For too long, we've seen the devastating effects of the Biden Border Crisis on our communities, including right here in North Central Florida. From fentanyl bricks stamped with cartel logos and pill presses found in Marion County, to overdose deaths from drugs smuggled across the border, we're doing everything we can to put an end to the dangerous policies from this administration.

O&I And Health Subcommittee Joint Hearing At Southern Border On Public Health & The Border Crisis

Image

On Wednesday, the Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee along with the Subcommittee on Health held a joint field hearing at the southern border to address the public health crisis there. I asked the Democrat witness during the field hearing about fentanyl deaths, to which the witness testified that the fentanyl overdoses and the border crisis are not connected and are just "political talking points."

Fentanyl has killed thousands of Americans since the start of this crisis—there are lethal doses in every community across the country, including in North Central Florida. Mrs. Garza's response is insane. She owes every American an apology.

Amending The National Defense Production Act Of 1950

Image

Countries like China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia pose massive military threats to the United States. Under no circumstances should they be allowed to purchase land within 10 miles of our military ports or near other sensitive sites, which is why I was proud to join my colleagues in cosigning H.R. 558 this week. This bill seeks to amend the Defense Production Act of 1950 to prohibit certain foreign countries from purchasing or leasing property near sensitive sites.

Field Hearing On American Energy Expansion & Improving Local Economies And Communities

Image

This week, I participated in an Energy and Commerce Committee field hearing on American energy expansion while at the southern border and asked witnesses about how we can unleash our domestic production capabilities, while removing burdensome, bureaucratic red tape. America can accomplish domestic production at a cleaner, cheaper, and more efficient rate than any other country in the world, and it's far past time we restored our energy independence for the good of our economy and Americans everywhere.

Protecting Military Servicemembers' Benefits Following Unconstitutional COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates

Image

Our men and women in uniform make the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our nation, and yet, this is how the administration chooses to repay them. Forcing military service members to repay signing bonuses after being discharged from the military for failing to receive a COVID-19 vaccine is reprehensible, and stands against every principle of freedom on which this country was founded.

This week, my colleagues and I sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin demanding that he correct this great injustice and restore our servicemembers' rights. It's not only what's right, it's what our nation's heroes deserve.

Meeting With The Florida League Of Cities In Washington, D.C.

Image

It was great to see folks from the Florida League of Cities in Washington, D.C. last week. Representatives from Starke, Lake City, and other municipalities visited to share about the important work their teams are doing and the support they need for federal grant applications, economic development, and more.

It's always a treat when folks from Florida's Third visit our nation's capital, and I'm thrilled to have had the chance to visit with them during a busy D.C. day.

Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Republican Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) have introduced a measure to stop drug and human traffickers from benefiting from U.S. tax dollars, even after they are charged with a crime. Essentially, the Stop Taxpayer Funding of Traffickers Act prevents anyone charged with drug or human trafficking at or near the border of receiving government benefits.
"Over the last two years, we've seen the horrific consequences of the Biden Border Crisis, including the devastating toll on our communities nationwide from drug and human trafficking," Cammack said, explaining that this has hit close to home, as the sheriff’s department in Florida's Marion County "recovered bricks of fentanyl with stamps from border cartels, alongside pill presses and sophisticated distribution plans."
