| Back In Florida's Third For Full Week Of Meetings, Honoring Our 2022 Veteran Of The Year & More |
|
|
This week while I was home in Florida's Third, I met with leaders from around the district to address the issues and problems facing our communities. I sat down with leaders from the Marion County Board of County Commissioners, the Lake City Chamber of Commerce, Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU), and more to discuss rural broadband, infrastructure, health care, and a variety of legislative priorities.
Additionally, our office presented our 2022 Veteran of the Year Award to Mr. Ansil Lewis during a small ceremony this morning. Sergeant Major Lewis is a decorated hero and has been an active member of North Central Florida's veterans' community for many years. It was an honor to present this award to Mr. Lewis for his distinguished service.
With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. |

Reps. Cammack, Eshoo Introduce Bipartisan Bill To Examine Cybersecurity Of Wireless Networks

On Tuesday, my Democratic colleague Anna Eshoo and I reintroduced the Understanding Cybersecurity of Mobile Networks Act, a bipartisan piece of legislation that takes important steps to ensure that our wireless networks are safe, and that the privacy and security of the American people are protected. With sophisticated mobile networks and high traffic occurring every day, it's critical that policymakers understand the landscape of these technologies and their vulnerabilities.

Giving The Marion County Board Of County Commissioners A Legislative Update

On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to address the Marion County Board of County Commissioners meeting to give a legislative update. This year, I’m excited to get to work as a member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee on rural broadband—an issue that largely impacts Marion County and Florida’s Third.
Looking forward to more discussions like these in the future. Big thanks to the Marion Board of County Commissioners for inviting me to speak at their board meeting!

This week, I sat down with the Lake City Chamber of Commerce executive directors to discuss small businesses and challenges to the city and county's various industries. Columbia County is one of the newest counties in Florida's Third Congressional District, and I'm excited to learn more about Lake City and how we can help serve our small business communities throughout the district.
Our top priority moving forward is delivering high-speed, reliable, affordable broadband, critical infrastructure, and increased health care options in the area. Looking forward to more discussions like these in the future! |

More 'Kat In The News' |
Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Thursday that her "heart just breaks for the victims" following the recent shooting near Orlando, Florida that killed a local reporter and a child. She added, "My heart just breaks for the victims; in fact, I knew one of the victims, Dylan Lyons. He was a reporter in Gainesville for several years, covered our campaign, covered several stories that we were a part of. And my heart just breaks, he was a true professional and...it's heartbreaking."

North Central Florida Congresswoman Kat Cammack addressed the Marion County Commission on Tuesday morning and announced a number of proposals she is working on in Congress. She announced her intention to name legislation aimed at combating opioid addiction after the late Ocala Police Chief Greg Graham.
"It is named after former Ocala Police Chief Greg Graham but it is the model we would like to see moving forward across the country," said Cammack. "Instead of throwing 62 billion dollars at research to study fentanyl and its impacts on the brain, we would like to actually direct those resources at helping communities combat the opioid epidemic."
