House Agriculture Committee Talks Inflation, Regulations & Challenges For First Hearing Of 118th Congress

The House Agriculture Committee came together for its first full hearing of the 118th Congress this week. We've seen the negative impacts inflation, supply-chain issues, regulations, and more have had on our nation's agriculture industry in the last few years. With the 2023 Farm Bill coming up this year, my Republican colleagues and I are working hard to bring real solutions to the table.

My bill, the REINS Act, returns the power of the purse to Congress to protect Florida's families, farmers, and small businesses from red tape and overregulation by the Biden administration. The regulatory environment is killing our nation's industries, and it's far past time we put the power back in the hands of the American people.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For Freedom,

Celebrating 178 Years Of Florida

Image

Today, we're celebrating the Sunshine State's Birthday! On this day in 1845, Florida officially joined the union. Like so many, I'm proud to call Florida home, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to represent folks from Florida's Third Congressional District in our nation's capital.

Happy Birthday, Florida!

Highlighting Bidenflation's Effects On Consumers

Image

Under Biden's inflation, what used to be a kitchen staple for most families is now a luxury item. In Florida, the average cost of a dozen eggs is $6.36—the second most expensive price in the nation. This is more than TRIPLE the $1.72 consumers were paying in November of 2021.

This is the direct cause of this administration's outrageous spending, and Americans are bearing the financial brunt of Biden's recklessness.

Celebrating The U.S. Navy Reserves' Birthday

Happy Birthday to the United States Navy Reserves! On this day in 1915, the Navy Reserves was established in response to the outbreak of World War I. To all our Navy Reserve Sailors, thank you for all our do to defend our nation from the sea.

First House Agriculture Hearing Of The 118th Congress Tackles Inflation, Regulations & More

Image

Earlier this week, I joined my colleagues for the first House Agriculture Committee hearing of the 118th Congress. Our nation's agriculture industry has been hit hard in the last few years with inflation, labor shortages, regulations, and more. I asked witnesses about the challenges our farmers, ranchers, and producers have been facing as a result.

As the lone Florida Republican on the committee, I’m working on behalf of our folks from Florida's Third to lower prices at the grocery store by bringing down input costs. With the 2023 Farm Bill coming up later this year, we’re excited to bring real solutions to the table for the Sunshine State and the nation.

Establishing A National Standard For Data Privacy In The U.S.

Image

This week during an Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee hearing, I asked witnesses about the national security implications of data, which include competition concerns, cyber and exploitation risks, and more. Establishing a standard for data privacy, especially in the wake TikTok and other Chinese-owned apps, is critical in protecting our national security.

Meeting With Newberry Mayor Jordan Marlowe In Washington, D.C.

This week, I sat down with Newberry Mayor Jordan Marlowe in our Washington, D.C. office! We discussed the upcoming 2023 Farm Bill, natural gas prices impacting local utilities, and making Newberry the ag-tech hub of Florida.

It's always great having our leaders from Florida's Third Congressional District up in our nation's capital. Thanks for stopping by!

Discussing Big Tech's Influence Over Local Journalism With The Florida Association Of Broadcasters

Image

On Tuesday morning, I joined the Florida Association of Broadcasters' Executive Committee and Board of Directors meeting in Washington, D.C. We discussed critical issues facing local broadcasters, including Big Tech's practices that threaten journalism. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, tackling Big Tech is one of my top priorities.

Big thanks to the Florida Association of Broadcasters for inviting me to the conversation—looking forward to more discussions like these in the future.

Rep. Cammack Joins The Evening Edit To Discuss Democrats' Failed 'Soft-On-Crime' Policies

Image

This week, I joined the Evening Edit on Fox Business to discuss Democrats' failed soft-on-crime policies. It's no wonder that liberal cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago are seeing some of the highest crime rates in the nation when their leaders are actively pulling police off the streets.

The solution is simple—we need to put our men and women in blue back on the streets where they're able to protect and defend our communities.

More 'Kat In The News'

Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Wednesday it's time for the Biden administration to admit the coronavirus pandemic resulted from a lab leak and not from a wet market in Wuhan, China, as many initially believed, and to hold China accountable for the devastation it wrought.
"There is just not an intelligence community consensus." Cammack told "The Chris Salcedo Show," "We obviously have been doing this song and dance, knowing full well that this is political rather than policy. It's time the Biden administration steps up and say the quiet part out loud: that this originated from a lab leak, and it's time to hold China accountable."

A coalition of conservative groups is urging Congress to pass the REINS Act to put a stop to "backdoor regulation" from the Biden administration that they say is costing American taxpayers billions in compliance costs.
The "Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act," or REINS Act, would broaden the scope of the Congressional Review Act to allow lawmakers to review every new "major rule" proposed by federal agencies to be approved by Congress before going into effect. Introduced earlier this year by House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., and Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., the REINS act would specifically require the House and Senate to pass a joint resolution in order for a major rule to be approved by Congress.
