Week of May 29, 2023
Honoring Memorial Day & Fighting To Rein In Out-Of-Control Government Spending

This week, we honored and remembered the men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation on Memorial Day. From Bradford to Baker and Gilchrist to Marion, ceremonies across the district honored our brave heroes. I hope you and your family took a moment to reflect on their sacrifices over the long weekend.

We were called back to Washington, D.C. this week to vote on the Fiscal Responsibility Act. While the bill made progress toward addressing several outstanding policy issues in Washington, it did not go far enough to cap the dangerous spending cycle of the federal government. I voted "no" on the legislation and appreciated the opportunity to engage with constituents like you during a telephone town hall to hear more about your thoughts on the bill.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For Freedom,

Recognizing Memorial Day

This week Team Kat attended Memorial Day ceremonies across North Central Florida. From Bradford to Gilchrist and Levy to Baker, we were proud to see so many folks honoring and remembering the sacrifices of our fallen men and women who bravely served our nation. We also extend a special thank-you to our local American Legion, VFW, and veterans' service organizations chapters for working to organize beautiful ceremonies for our communities.

Fighting Back Against Rampant Washington Spending Sprees

This week, the House voted to pass the Fiscal Responsibility Act. More than 150 Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the legislation that didn't go nearly far enough to cut the reckless spending in Washington.

Under the bill, the U.S. federal government would run a total of $18.786 trillion in deficits, while suspending the debt limit through January 1, 2025. Additionally, the bill did not include the REINS Act—my signature piece of legislation—which was included in the Limit, Save, Grow Act Republicans passed this spring without Democrats at the negotiating table.

There are more reasons the bill did not deserve my support and I took to Facebook Live to share my thoughts on the legislation. You can watch it here.

Talking With Constituents During Wednesday Night Telephone Town Hall

Image

Before Wednesday evening's vote on the Fiscal Responsibility Act, I took to the phone lines to hear from constituents about the vote and their opinions on the deal. Over 10,000 people joined us for the duration of the call, and we took questions live to hear feedback from Ocala to Lake City and everywhere in between.

Supporting Summer Literacy With Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy HorsesImage

This week, members of Team Kat continued our Read To Lead Book Program campaign with a summer children's visit at the Ocala Downtown Market. With Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses, children got to meet Magic the Pony and hear a story read aloud before taking home their very own book from the Library of Congress provided by our office.

Our Read to Lead program provides books to elementary school children in kindergarten through third grade with supplies from the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program. If you or someone you know is interested in partnering with us to deliver books to a school or classroom in our district, please use the button below to get in touch!

NCFL Congresswoman Opposes Debt Ceiling Deal, House Prepares To Vote
Cammack scheduled a telephone town hall at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night to discuss the issue with her constituents. In a Tweet, she stated, "Absolutely no one wants to default but this current deal is unacceptable. I have read this bill twice and as the language currently stands, I will be voting no to raise the debt ceiling."
