|
This week, the House met to consider legislation, including my very own REINS Act. I spoke on the House Floor about the bill, the video of which you can watch below. Stay tuned for more information about when the bill's expected to pass the House!
In two subcommittee hearings for the Energy & Commerce Committee and one full committee hearing for the Agriculture Committee, we discussed cryptocurrency and blockchain, and oversight of the CDC during the COVID pandemic. You can read more about those hearings and watch them below.
We also welcomed hundreds of fifth-grade students to Washington for their safety patrol trip to our nation's capital! We have several hundred more students visiting in the coming weeks to celebrate all of their hard work during the school year, so stay tuned to see photos and videos all throughout the month of June.
Finally, we have special news to share about a homecoming in Hamilton County. Read more about welcoming U.S. Army Corporal Alton Christie home to Jasper.
With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. Debating The REINS Act On The House Floor

During Biden's first two years in office, the administration added more than $300B in new regulatory costs to the economy. The new rules enacted during his first two years required 193 million hours of compliance paperwork to satisfy nameless, faceless bureaucrats in Washington.
It's long past time we reassert Congress's lawmaking authority and rein in the executive overreach once and for all. You can watch my speech on the House Floor by clicking here or on the image above. |

Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee Tackles Failures Of The CDC

Additionally, I spoke during the Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee hearing on the CDC's failures in fulfilling its mission, especially during and after the COVID pandemic's onset. I asked about preventing the CDC from cherry-picking data it finds relevant for political motivations, such as what took place during the pandemic. It's important that we ensure scientific data is used appropriately to inform the American people and restore public trust.

Hosting Alachua County Safety Patrol

This week in Washington, hundreds of students from Alachua County visited our nation's capital as part of their Safety Patrol Year-End Trip! The students and dozens of parent chaperones visited the U.S. Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Museums, and dozens of other historic sites and monuments. The students have worked so hard all school year to get to take this special trip as a reward.
Special thanks to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office for organizing the trips and making sure all our students and families travel safely during their visits. We have a few more groups from other counties coming to visit in the next couple weeks—stay tuned! |

Welcoming Corporal Christie Home To North Central Florida

Killed in action in the Korean War near Osan, South Korea in 1950, Jasper, Florida native and U.S. Army Corporal Alton Christie was initially listed as missing in action. The Army found no evidence his body had been recovered after the battle, nor had they found record of him being a prisoner of war. In 1950, 20 sets of remains were recovered near Osan, the same place where Christie's unit had engaged in battle. All unidentified remains, including Body X-214, were moved to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI.
In 2014, Christie's family reached out, thinking Body X-214 may be related to Christie somehow. After the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System used DNA to determine the identity, they found the remains were, in fact, Christie's. This past weekend, Christie's family laid him to rest in Jasper after seven decades away from home. May God bless Corporal Christie and his family. May we never forget his service or sacrifice for our nation. |
