Week of August 7, 2023
Back-To-School & Back In Florida's Third For August Recess

Dear Neighbor,

This week marks the first day of school for thousands of families across Florida's Third Congressional District! We wish all of our students, teachers, and parents a productive and successful school year ahead, and we remind all of our area drivers and pedestrians to watch for school buses, put down electronic devices in the car, and pay attention to our young learners making their way to their classrooms.

I've had the opportunity to visit many folks across the district the last two weeks, meeting with constituents in Gainesville, Ocala, Macclenny, Cedar Key, and beyond. Take a look below to learn about our time with Walmart, RaceTrac, the Rasmussen University Ocala School of Nursing, and more.

Of note, nominations for our nation's service academies are now open. The military academies serve as an excellent opportunity for young men and women to serve our nation while receiving a high-quality education that will serve them well during and after their time in the Armed Forces. For more information, check out the information below or contact Dorothy by calling (352) 505-0838.

The House is out of session until mid-September and I'm grateful to be back in North Central Florida for the next month. I'm excited to have visited with many of you across the district the last two weeks and look forward to more stops ahead.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube

For Freedom,

Saying Goodbye To Our Summer Interns

Image

Today we say goodbye to our 2023 D.C. summer interns, John Garrett, Olivia, and Katie (not pictured). The trio has been hard at work this summer answering phone calls from constituents, giving tours of the U.S. Capitol, assisting the legislative team with research, and exploring our nation's capital. While we're sad to see them go, all three return to their college campuses for another great school year ahead. Thank you for all of your hard work this summer!

If you know a college student interested in interning with us during a future semester or summer in Washington, D.C. or our Gainesville and Ocala district offices, check out our website here or click the button below.

Marion County Commission Chair Craig Curry Visits Washington

Image

Recently, Marion County Commission Chairman Craig Curry visited Washington, D.C. to share the latest updates on some important projects in development in Marion County. It's always such a treat to see our local leaders in our nation's capital and I was grateful for the opportunity to spend some time during a busy day with a familiar face from back home. Thank you, Commissioner Curry and your team for visiting with us during your trip!

Visiting Walmart's Distribution Center In Macclenny

Image

I visited the Walmart Distribution Center in Macclenny to meet with leaders about the regional operation that serves Walmart stores in North Central Florida and beyond. There are dozens of Walmart stores across Florida's Third and it was great to see all that goes into supplying the stores that serve so many of our constituents. Thank you for hosting me and showing me all you do to keep the Sunshine State moving.

Visiting The Ocala RaceTrac With National Association of Convenience Stores

Image

I stopped by an Ocala RaceTrac location to serve for an afternoon as a cashier and in the kitchen as part of a visit with the National Association of Convenience Stores. With the help of awesome store manager Ms. Kimmy, I helped to check customers out at the register and even made a famous RaceTrac pizza for folks as part of the congressional pizza challenge! I spoke with customers at the gas pumps and as they came through the store. I appreciated the opportunity to visit and learn about the issues our convenience store owners are facing.

They'll probably tell me I shouldn't quit my day job, but I had a great time. Thanks again to RaceTrac and NACS for hosting us!

Meeting With Cedar Key Fire Rescue

Image

During a visit to Cedar Key, we stopped by Cedar Key Fire Rescue downtown and met with Chief Robert Robinson and his team to see all of their equipment and to thank them for the hard work they do to keep year-round residents and visitors safe during their time in this hidden gem in Levy County. As the wife of a first responder myself, it's always a privilege visiting with our hardworking firemen and women who dedicate their lives to public service.

Cedar Key is a beautiful place and we're lucky to have it in Florida's Third!

Rasmussen University Ocala School Of Nursing Campus Hosts Team Kat

Image

Team Kat visited the Rasmussen University's Ocala School of Nursing Campus to learn more about opportunities for adult learners in North Central Florida! As the need for nurses and other health care professionals grows nationwide, the team at Rasmussen shared with us how they're working to help students succeed with meaningful careers that make a difference. Thanks to Pete, Stacy, Susan, Sharon, and Deidre for hosting us and showing all of the amazing work your team does to teach nursing students.

New Memo Reveals FBI Targeting Of Catholics More Widespread

Image

I joined Liz MacDonald on the Evening Edit this week to talk about the House Judiciary Committee's latest letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray asking about his recent testimony claiming the Richmond, VA field office's targeting of Catholics was a one-time deal. New information shows the targeting was more widespread than originally thought, and Republicans are committed to learning more.

Take a look at our conversation below.
