Week of August 14, 2023
Criss-Crossing Florida's Third

Dear Neighbor,

With the school year now underway across the district, it amazes me how fast this year is moving! We hope all of our students, teachers, and parents have had a productive first week back in the classroom and are looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.

I've had the opportunity to visit many folks across the district over the last week, from Levy and Lafayette Counties to Suwannee, Marion, and beyond. Take a look below to learn about our time on the Withlacoochee River, on a delivery with J&J Gas Service, at an event with Advent Christian Village, and more.

This week, several young ladies from Florida's Third made us proud by winning gold at the International Baton Twirling Federation World Championships in Liverpool, England. Young women from Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Lafayette, Suwannee, and Union Counties traveled across the pond to make us proud on the world stage. We hope you'll join us in congratulating them.

As a reminder, nominations for our nation's service academies are now open. We will soon be announcing the upcoming Service Academy Day where interested students can meet with representatives from each of the academies and learn more about the application process. The military academies serve as an excellent opportunity for young men and women to serve our nation while receiving a high-quality education that will serve them well during and after their time in the Armed Forces. For more information, check out the information below or contact Dorothy by calling (352) 505-0838.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube

For Freedom,

Florida's Third Brings Home Gold

Image

Congratulations to Logan Lents and Amelia Braswell from Lafayette County, Audrey Felknor from Suwannee County, and several other young women from Baker, Alachua, and Union Counties for taking gold at the International Baton Twirling Federation World Championships in Liverpool this weekend! These ladies represented our district and the USA on the world stage and made us tremendously proud with their hard work and training to accomplish this milestone.

Please join us in congratulating them on this outstanding achievement!

Service Academy Nominations Now Open

Image

Nominations for our nation's Service Academies are now open, and we will soon announce the in-person Service Academy Day date and location for local students interested in applying! One of the highest honors for college students nationwide, our nation's military academies train young men and women to serve as officers in the U.S. Military while providing a high-quality education that will serve them well after their time in the service has concluded.

The deadline to submit the completed application is September 29th. With questions or for more information, please contact Dorothy by calling our Gainesville office at (352) 505-0838.

Hosting A Meet-And-Greet With Residents At Advent Christian Village

Image

I had the best time visiting Advent Christian Village in Live Oak and speaking with some of the amazing residents in the community. Fun fact: ACV is the very first retirement community in Florida! ACV is an active senior community located along the historic Suwannee River in North Central Florida and it's a true gem for our region and the folks who call it home. Thanks for hosting me and the team for a meet-and-greet!

Visting Gardner Farms In Lafayette

Image

I recently visited Gardner Farms in Lafayette County! While there, I spoke with the Gardner Family and their team about their crops, including their delicious blackberries that we got to taste straight from the field! With the Farm Bill headed our way next month, I was glad to share my support for our Florida producers and update them on what they can expect in the coming months as we work to craft a farm bill that supports Florida farmers, ranchers, and producers. Thank you for having us.

Touring The Withlacoochee River In Levy County

Image

I visited Levy County along the Lower Withlacoochee River to view the spillway, earthen dam, and ongoing projects to restore the flow of the river. Joined by the Withlacoochee Aquatic Restoration (WAR) board members, leaders from Yankeetown, Inglis, Levy County, and the State of Florida, we heard about the need to restore the flow, working with the Army Corps of Engineers and State of Florida to improve water management in the region. This river is a treasure in North Central Florida and I was grateful to hear from the men and women who dedicate so much of their time to making sure it is a resource for many years to come.

Thank you for hosting us, and we look forward to sharing more information on this project very soon!

Work Continues On The 2023 Farm Bill

Image

The work on the 2023 Farm Bill is underway and I'm working hard to make sure this critical piece of legislation supports our Florida farmers, ranchers, and producers. As the lone Florida Republican on the House Agriculture Committee, I've been hard at work since my first term in 2021, working to recognize those who feed, clothe, and fuel our nation and state. As we get closer, we're highlighting some of the amazing folks across the Sunshine State who keep us healthy and fed.

J&J Gas Service Delivery

Image

I visited J&J Gas Service and went out on a delivery with the team to a local farm! J&J has been locally and family-owned since 1974 and provides propane sales, delivery, installation, service, and repair in North Central Florida. We discussed the rising costs of energy and the important work House Republicans on the Energy & Commerce Committee have been doing to lower energy costs for Americans. It’s time to return common sense to Washington as this current administration continues to pursue its radical green energy agenda that drives up prices, limits competition, and increases our dependence on China.

To the J&J Gas team, thank you for hosting me and the team!
