Week of August 21, 2023
New Opportunities Arrive In Florida's Third

Dear Neighbor,

As August marches on, we've been hard at work in the district meeting with more constituents and celebrating new opportunities in our region.

Silver Airways has arrived at Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) and now offers low-price fares to Fort Lauderdale, making travel to South Florida that much easier! We celebrated the first flight earlier this week as we welcomed Silver to our area. Additionally, Lane Manufacturing broke ground on its new facility in Alachua County which will bring 60-80 new jobs in 2024. We're glad to welcome new businesses and opportunities to North Central Florida and look forward to sharing more great news with you soon.

You can also take a look below at some of our recent visits, including to Lake Butler Elementary School in Union County and the Lake City Chamber Legislative Breakfast in Columbia County. More visits are planned for next week—stay tuned to see where we'll be next!

As a reminder, nominations for our nation's service academies are now open. We will soon be announcing the upcoming Service Academy Day where interested students can meet with representatives from each of the academies and learn more about the application process. For more information, check out the information below or contact Dorothy by calling (352) 505-0838.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube

For Freedom,

Read To Lead Program Visits Lake Butler Elementary School

Image

I visited with the young students at Lake Butler Elementary in Union County to deliver books as part of our office's Read to Lead Program. With the Library of Congress's surplus books supply, we're working to get a book into the hands of our K-3 students across Florida's Third!

It was great to see these kids on their first day of school and to encourage them as they grow their reading skills and tackle new subjects in the classroom. Thanks to the Lake Butler Elementary team for having us—go Tigers!

Lake City Chamber Legislative Breakfast

Image

I had the opportunity to speak with Columbia County business leaders at the Lake City Chamber's Legislative Breakfast to share updates from the first half of the year in D.C. It was great to see so many familiar faces who work hard to make North Central Florida the best place to live, work, and raise a family. Along with sharing updates on the REINS Act I introduced earlier this Congress, I also spoke about the 2023 Farm Bill and its importance for Florida's agri-economy. Thank you for hosting us!

This week, we celebrated the inaugural flight of Silver Airways' new Gainesville to Fort Lauderdale ticket! For fares as low as $49 to start, passengers can fly from North Central Florida to South Florida without having to travel to Orlando or Jacksonville or connect through another airport. This new comfort and convenience is a great option for travelers in our region and will bring new opportunities for business and leisure passengers.

We're excited to see Silver Airways take flight!

Lane Manufacturing Opens In Alachua County

We celebrated the groundbreaking of the new site of Lane Manufacturing in Alachua this week! As a full-line manufacturer of corrugated metal and plastic drainage products, Lane operates plants throughout the U.S. to produce various types of buried structures for the construction industry.

This new plant in Alachua will be the only one in Florida with 100,000 square feet of space, and it will bring 60-80 new jobs when it opens in the spring of 2024! We are always excited to welcome new businesses to #FL03 and look forward to all of the amazing work to come.

Previewing Biden's Trip To Maui

Image

On Monday, I joined Cheryl Casone on Fox Business to preview the president's trip to Maui to survey the damage from the tragic wildfires. After spending nearly 40 percent of his presidency on vacation, the Commander-In-Chief is more like the Commander-In-Cabana after finally making the trip to Hawaii despite saying "no comment" one week earlier.
