Hurricane Idalia Recovery Resources Guide
Recovering From Hurricane Idalia

Dear Neighbor,

Hurricane Idalia devastated parts of our district, largely in Levy, Dixie, Lafayette, Hamilton, and Suwannee Counties. Recovery efforts are underway to restore power and other utilities to the hardest-hit areas, and we are in constant contact with local leaders, law enforcement, and utilities companies to keep folks updated on these restoration efforts.

This morning I visited Cedar Key with Senator Rick Scott to see the damage and hear from homeowners, business owners, law enforcement, and city leaders about what they need most right now. The entire Florida delegation is working together to make sure all federal resources are available for our communities, including resources from FEMA, the Small Business Administration, the USDA, and more.

For those whose homes or business were damaged, please see below or here for information about the necessary steps to file insurance and disaster claims. Our office stands by to help process those claims with the appropriate federal agencies. In the coming days, we'll share more information on mobile office hours for our staff, along with representatives from the other federal agencies. We anticipate being available in-person at several sites throughout our communities to answer questions and accept claims throughout September.

As the recovery process continues, stay updated on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube. Our Washington, D.C. and district offices remain open as usual to assist with recovery efforts, so don't hesitate to give us a call in D.C. at (202) 225-5744, in Gainesville at (352) 505-0838, or in Ocala at (352) 421-9052.

As always, we are with you and will weather this recovery together. If our team can be of assistance, please give us a call or reach out to us at KCammack.Hurricane@mail.house.gov.

Step One: File Damage Claims

Image

As recovery from Idalia continues, our team stands ready to help the residents of Florida's Third Congressional District. If your home, business, or agricultural operation sustained damage, now's the time to document it and file claims with the appropriate agencies and your insurance provider. Make sure to take photos of the damage and of important documents and send them to yourself so you have them electronically.

More guidance is available in the above graphic, and make sure to give us a call or reach out to us via email at KCAMMACK.HURRICANE@MAIL.HOUSE.GOV. We are here to help and make sure you have all the necessary resources following this natural disaster.

Touring Damage In Cedar Key

Image

This morning, I joined Senator Rick Scott in Cedar Key to thank local law enforcement and Levy County leaders for their work with cleanup so far and to see the damage sustained by homes and businesses. This beautiful part of Florida's Third sustained significant flooding and damage, but we know we'll build back even stronger. We won't stop fighting until we restore Cedar Key and the other communities devastated by Hurricane Idalia.

Beware Scammers During Cleanup

Image

Following natural disasters, scammers will attempt to take advantage of you or your home. Whether it's offering to buy damaged property, beginning repair work on your home, or cleaning up your yard, make sure anyone working at your property is authorized. Ask to see proper identification before any work begins.

Report scammers to 1-866-966-7226 or MyFloridaLegal.com.

Urging Approval Of Disaster Declaration

Image

After Idalia impacted our region yesterday, the Florida delegation moved swiftly to urge President Biden to approve a major disaster declaration for Florida. On Thursday morning, the president approved the declaration to make additional federal resources available for recovery efforts. We will always work hard to make sure Florida residents have all the necessary resources to come back stronger from the storm and I am proud to continue leading this effort.
