Week of October 16, 2023
Attacks In Israel & The Speaker Elections Continue

Dear Neighbor,

Israel is in their their second week of fighting Hamas and our office continues to help evacuate Americans in Israel. If you or someone you know needs help returning to the States, please reach out to us in Washington, D.C. or Gainesville at (202) 225-5744 or (352) 505-0838. Read more below with the latest information

Today, the Republican party voted on the House Floor for a new Speaker of the House and failed to reach a majority vote. I have voted in favor of Representative Jordan for the three Floor votes cast this week. As of this afternoon, Representative Jordan is no longer seeking to be Speaker and the candidate forums continue early next week. We will keep you updated with the latest information as we seek to get back to work to pass the final appropriations bills and avoid a government shutdown next month.

Back in Florida's Third, we welcomed our newest community college, Taylor College! Their ribbon cutting ceremony was one to remember, and we are so excited to have them as our neighbors. Thank you for encouraging education in our community for a new generation of nurses and physical therapists!

Finally, our next telephone town hall is THIS Monday at 5:30pm ET and we want to hear from YOU! Read below for more information about how to sign up before this Sunday.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For Freedom,

October 18: Protests In The Capitol

I went live on Facebook to show my constituents the protests calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. More than 300 of these protesters were arrested for the demonstration.

We need a Speaker of the House so we can pass legislation needed for the people of Israel and continue to speak out against the horrific attacks by Hamas.

On October 17, Republicans failed to elect a Speaker of the House.

During the second round of voting, we came up short on votes for Jim Jordan. I went live on Facebook to give some behind-the-scenes information about what happened in Washington this week.
