Week of October 23, 2023
The House Elects A New Speaker, Breast Cancer Awareness Month

After multiple rounds of voting, the House of Representative elected a new Speaker of the House on Wednesday. Congratulations to my colleague, Representative Mike Johnson of Louisiana, as he embarks on his Speakership. I've had the privilege to work alongside him on the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government and know that he will lead the House with principle.

This week in Washington, I held a press conference with over a dozen of my colleagues for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is critical that women do routine checks and self-examinations, and schedule their mammograms! Early detection is critical to preventing and treating breast cancer.

At home in Florida's Third, our office joined Family Promise as they celebrated 25 years of helping prevent homelessness and stabilizing families who have experienced homelessness. Thank you for serving our community.

Additionally, Team Kat attended the Alachua Water Quality & Resiliency Improvement Project's groundbreaking ceremony! This project will work to pump one million gallons of water each day for our neighbors.

Finally, tomorrow is National First Responders Appreciation Day. Earlier this morning, I introduced a bipartisan resolution with three of my colleagues to thank our hardworking first responders and to encourage them for the difficult jobs they perform for our communities.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For Freedom,

Congratulations to the new Speaker of the House, Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana! Mike has been a colleague of mine on the Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government and is a strong conservative leader to help us keep our work going and deliver on behalf of the American people. Congratulations, Mr. Speaker, and I look forward to working with you.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Image

It was an honor to see so many women join our press conference Thursday as we recognized National Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Breast cancer accounts for nearly one in three new cancer diagnoses in women, with more than 240,000+ new cases each year in the U.S.

It's important to get screened and prioritize our health care, even amid our busy lives as wives, mothers, leaders, and beyond. Our biggest message from today: get screened! Conduct self exams when you can and take your mammogram appointments seriously. The life you save could end up being your own.

Supporting Women For Gun Rights

Image

Last week, I joined Women for Gun Rights, a nationwide organization of women committed to safeguarding the Second Amendment. I shared with them my own advocacy for women's rights to keep and bear arms, along with some important legislation I've sponsored over the last three years to ensure all Americans have the opportunity to defend themselves and their families. Thank you to my colleague from North Carolina, Mr. Richard Hudson, for working to organize this event.

National Day Of The Deployed

Image

Yesterday was National Day of the Deployed. Thank you to all of our servicemen and women who bravely serve our nation across the world. We are grateful for your sacrifices and those of your families here at home.

Thank You To Our First Responders

Image

Today, I joined Reps. Rosa De Lauro, Joe Courtney, and Brian Fitzpatrick in introducing a bipartisan resolution honoring our nation's first responders. With National First Responders Appreciation Day tomorrow, we're taking a moment to recognize those who run toward danger when the rest of us run away from it. To all of the brave men and women serving our communities, this one's for you!
