Week of December 4, 2023
Energy & Commerce Markup, Fighting The Debt Crisis

Dear Neighbor,

This week was a busy one in Washington, D.C. Next week will be the last week in session before a break for the holidays. After nearly three months in session this fall, I can't wait to be back home in Florida. We hope to see many of you at the upcoming holiday parades in our area.

This past week, I spoke with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Director about the NextGen 9-11 programs and interoperability of communication systems for our first responders. As the wife of a first responder, I know just how important these tools are to keeping our communities safe.

Additionally, I spoke before the House Budget Committee this week to talk about our national debt approaching $34 trillion. Click here to watch my proposal to rectify these fiscal sins that will surely impact future generations if we don't take action.

Back home in the district, we have several football teams competing for state championship titles! Last night the Hawthorne Hornets beat Madison County to take the back-to-back win in their division. This evening, the Bradford County High School Tornadoes will compete for their first shot at a state title since the 1980s. We'll be cheering them on!

Finally, Hanukkah began last night and continues for the next week. To all of our friends and neighbors celebrating, we wish you peace and light this season. With events around the world, we keep you in our thoughts and prayers and always stand with you.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For The Republic,

Happy Hanukkah!

Wishing all who celebrate Hanukkah across Florida's Third District and the nation peace and light this holiday season and throughout the next eight nights.

With antisemitism on the rise the last several months, we send our prayers and support to our Jewish friends in Florida and across the world as they mark this holiday.

Remembering Pearl Harbor

Image

This week we remembered December 7, 1941.

We honor and remember the servicemembers and civilians we lost 82 years ago and this dark day in our nation's history. May we never forget the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Energy & Commerce Committee Update

Image

This week, we wrapped up the year with a long markup hearing in the best committee in Congress, Energy & Commerce! We took action on 44 bills and dozens of amendments, and all were aimed at improving health care, lowering energy costs, stopping fraud, and getting big government out of the way.

$34 Trillion National Debt Falls On American Taxpayers

Image

As of this week, the U.S. national debt is barreling toward $34 trillion. As one of the youngest members serving in the House of Representatives today, I am infuriated, disappointed, and frustrated about this very fact.

The fiscal sins committed in the halls of Congress today will be paid by future generations. Continuing resolutions are nothing more than rubber stamps for past spending, and without reforms immediately, our fiscal future is in danger.

Wednesday morning, I spoke in Budget Committee's Member Day about the dangerous path we're headed toward if we don't make changes now.

NTIA Administrator Visits The Energy & Commerce Committee

Image

During this week's Communications & Technology Subcommittee hearing with the Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), I discussed additional funding for grant administration. I also asked about the implementation and interoperability of NextGen 9-1-1. As the wife of a first responder, I understand how important communication tools are for those on the front lines in our communities.

Saying Goodbye To Our Fall Interns

Today we say goodbye to our Fall 2023 interns!

Antonio and Scarlett have been rockstars in our office this semester answering phones, giving tours, assisting the legislative and communications teams with special projects, and more. We will miss them and wish them luck!

Meeting Our Furry (Soon-To-Be) First Responders

Image

Yesterday, Congresswoman Jen Kiggans of Virginia shared the newest service-pups-in-training with Members in Washington. They'll soon become police K9s for law enforcement agencies in the region. It's always great to see these animals who do so much good for our law enforcement, first responders, and servicemembers!

Newberry Celebrates Installation of SafeHaven Baby Box

Image

The City of Newberry is now home to Florida's second SafeHaven Baby Box. Newberry Fire Rescue Station 28 installed the safe and anonymous box for parents in crisis to surrender their newborns into the safe hands of local first responders. Our team attended the opening ceremony and could not be more proud to see our community protecting the sanctity of life in North Central Florida.

The first SafeHaven Baby Box is located just down I-75 in Ocala, and we hope more communities across the Sunshine State install similar boxes to continue protecting young lives.
