Week of January 8, 2024
118th Congress Begins Second Session

Dear Neighbor,

This week began the first legislative week of the second session of the 118th Congress and it's already off to a roaring start.

On Capitol Hill Wednesday, Hunter Biden crashed a congressional hearing to garner media attention and distract the American people from the truth about his shady business dealings. While his appearance was brief, we made it clear that the Biden family won't distract the American people from the transparency they deserve. The Committees on the Judiciary, Oversight, and Ways & Means will continue their contempt of Congress proceedings against Hunter Biden.

The House also continued its pursuit of an impeachment inquiry against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas this week. I've been to the border nearly one dozen times over the last four years in Congress, and I know how serious the threat we face truly is. Secretary Mayorkas has dangerously and intentionally put our national security at risk and he should be forced to answer for what this administration has done in letting over three million people into our country illegally. I talked about this and other issues with Harris Faulkner on Fox News Monday. You can watch the clip below.

Additionally, as we wrapped up last year, I was proud to report that we introduced 11 bills, cosponsored 193 bills, passed 9 amendments, and passed one bill through the House in 2023. You can learn more about the work we're doing to advocate for North Central Florida through meaningful legislation below.

Finally, please mark your calendars for my next telephone town hall this coming Tuesday, January 16 at 5:30pm. Click here to register!

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Recognizing National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Image

Tuesday marked National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. As the wife of a first responder, I have tremendous respect and appreciation for the men and women that protect our communities each and every day. I hope you'll join me in thanking the men and women of our law enforcement agencies across the district for all they do to keep us safe. I look forward to recognizing them later this spring with National Police Week in May.

2023 Legislative Recap

Image

In 2023, I introduced 11 original pieces of legislation, cosponsored 193 bills, had nine amendments passed by the House, and one major bill—the REINS Act—passed by the House. We're looking forward to more achievements in 2024 as we fight for the best congressional district in the country!

Defending Against Cyberattacks

Image

Did you know there is a cyberattack on our communications infrastructure in the U.S. every 39 seconds?

During this week's Communications & Technology Subcommittee hearing with the Energy & Commerce Committee, we talked about defending against cyberattacks and the importance of ensuring our infrastructure is prepared.

Secretary Of Defense Fails To Notify White House Of Serious Medical Issues

Image

I spoke with Harris Faulkner on Secretary Austin's failure to notify the White House of his medical treatments that took him out of commission. The major chain-of-command failure that put our national security at-risk is just the latest in the Biden administration's series of major mistakes. When the leader responsible for our military men and women overseas is hospitalized, someone else must be deputized immediately.

I also spoke with Harris about Secretary Mayorkas and the ongoing process to hold him accountable.

Slamming Climate Envoy John Kerry Over Transparency Failures

Image

Earlier this week with Liz MacDonald, I discussed the Biden administration's failure to be transparent about its use of taxpayer funds. The latest finds Climate Envoy John Kerry's office has not published the use of funds or the names of staff. As federal government employees, it's standard for the names and salaries to be published for the American people.
