Week of January 15, 2024
Biden's Border Crisis & Another CR

Dear Neighbor,

Congress convened this week to address the border crisis plaguing our country and passed another continuing resolution to keep government funding levels current until later this spring. I voted against this continuing resolution because it does not solve our border crisis and keeps enabling the Biden administration to destroy our sovereignty and our pocketbooks. Keeping Nancy Pelosi's budget from years past does nothing for the American people but send our children and grandchildren into deeper debt.

While in Washington this week, the Energy & Commerce Committee was busy with hearings to discuss college athletes and the effects of the Biden Border Crisis. I also had the honor of speaking at a Pro-Life Caucus press conference on Thursday ahead of some pro-life events in D.C. this weekend. It is critical to the wellbeing of our unborn babies to protect the sanctity and quality of life. You can listen to my remarks below.

Back home is Florida's Third, I recently had the honor of attending two important events in our community. Newberry held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Publix that will be open in 2025, and the Trooper B Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary held their annual banquet where I had the chance to thank our heroes for all they do to keep our communities safe.

Next week is a district week, and I look forward to seeing many of you in Gainesville and Ocala.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Pro-Life Caucus Press Conference

Image

Yesterday, I joined my fellow Pro-Life Caucus colleagues and strong Republican women to reaffirm our support for pro-life policies that positively impact women, children, and families across the U.S.

My pro-life story is a very personal one, which is why I'm proud to stand up with some of the amazing organizations across this country that care for women before and after their children are born. Afterwards, I joined some of our pro-life students from the University of Florida for pro-life events in D.C.

National Impact Of Biden's Border Crisis

Image

During this week's Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee hearing in the Energy & Commerce Committee, a witness tried to say that there are virtually zero downsides to illegal immigration in this country, noting that zero people have been murdered by an illegal immigrant terrorist act, while totally ignoring the costs to local, state, and federal governments nationwide.

His statement was absolute nonsense and I push back on it in the clip above.

Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) Debate In The Spotlight

Image

On Thursday, NCAA President Charlie Baker was on Capitol Hill to speak about policies related to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) and protecting student athletes. I asked President Baker about protecting women athletes on college campuses across the country.

"It's not difficult, it's not complicated, it's DNA," I said.

New Publix Arrives In Newberry

Image

Earlier this month, we broke ground on the new Publix in Newberry! This new store will offer 55,000 square feet of space—more than a couple other Publix stores in the area—and signals all of the great growth in the region! We've got another year or so to go until the store opens, but we're excited for all the new jobs and opportunities Publix will bring—not to mention all the Pub Subs!

Trooper B Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary Annual Banquet

Image

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend and speak at the Trooper B Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary (FHPA) Annual Banquet in Ocala. Our hardworking men and women of the FHPA are the professionally trained, all-volunteer, law enforcement organization dedicated to providing direct assistance and operational support to the Florida Highway Patrol, and responsible for promoting public safety for the citizens and visitors of Florida.

It was great to see them and thank them for all they do to protect and serve our state and make sure we're all safe on the roads and in our communities. As the wife of a first responder, I know what it takes each day these folks put on the uniform and I'm glad to stand behind them.
