Week of January 22, 2024
Happy National Florida Day!

Dear Neighbor,

While Congress was in recess this week, it was a big week for spending time in the district. I had several productive meetings and visits in Gainesville and Ocala this week, and I look forward to sharing more information and photos from those visits soon. You can take a look at our meeting with Hawthorne Mayor Jacquelyn Randall below.

In Marion County, our Director of Veterans and Military Services, Mr. Dave Hill, had the honor of presenting an American flag that had been flown over the United States Capitol to Colonel Craig Hamm. Colonel Hamm is the president of the Marion County Veterans Council and was recently inducted into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame for his service to our state and nation.

This week we also celebrated National Florida Day! Our state is nothing short of beautiful, from our natural springs and sprawling farms to our beautiful beaches and national parks. We hope you enjoyed some Florida sunshine to mark the occasion this week.

Meanwhile in Washington, the Biden administration has finally paid attention to our southern border, but this time taking action for all the wrong reasons. After the Supreme Court sided with the White House and ordered Texas to take down the razor wire along its border with Mexico, Texas doubled down. I agree with Texas Governor Abbott's decision to defend Texas and will fight with my Republican colleagues in the House to do everything to support states' rights to self-defense.

We're back in Washington next week, so stay tuned for the latest on the border fight and efforts to impeach Secretary Mayorkas.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on TwitterFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Celebrating National Florida Day

Image

Yesterday was a big day in the Sunshine State—National Florida Day! Florida became the 27th state in the Union in 1845, and although we're a bit biased, we think it's the best state of them all.

From all of us on Team Kat, we hope you had a Florida-filled day with all the amazing things that make Florida the best place to call home, from our amazing agricultural crops and public lands to our tourist destinations and beautiful waters.

Happy National Florida Day!

Promoting Options In Education

Image

It's National School Choice week and we're celebrating the tremendous opportunities available to Florida students through school choice. There are a number of K-12 educational options, including traditional public, charter, magnet, online, private, and home education opportunities in the Sunshine State.

We're so proud that Florida is a national leader in school choice to provide the best choices for children, the best involvement for parents, and improved school safety.

Learn more about options available here.

Last week, our Director of Veterans and Military Services presented a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of Colonel Craig Hamm, U.S. Army (Ret.), to recognize his induction into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame. Congratulations, Colonel Hamm!

Meeting With Hawthorne Mayor Jacquelyn Randall

Image

I had the pleasure to meet with Hawthorne Mayor Jacquelyn Randall to discuss all of the great work she and her team have been doing and how our office can continue to help Hawthorne grow. I always enjoy meeting with the leaders of our small towns and cities, which remind me why North Central Florida is the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

I'm so proud of all our local municipalities and everything they do to keep our communities flourishing. Thank you for stopping by!

Announcing Area Code 324

Image

The area code 324 is being introduced in Florida on February 26. Customers with 904 area codes may be assigned a new 324 number when requesting an additional line after all 904 numbers have been exhausted.

Beginning next Monday, January 29, calls made in the 904 area code must be dialed using the area code with the 7-digit phone number. After this date, calls made with just 7 digits will not be completed.

If any of the equipment in your home (medical, security, etc.) is programmed to accommodate a 10-digit dialing number, please be sure to update it before January 29.

To learn more, visit the Florida Public Service Commission.
