Week of January 29, 2024
Border Crisis Worsens, Energy & Commerce Committee Hearings Heat Up

Dear Neighbor,

This week, the House Homeland Security Committee approved impeachment articles for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. While the impeachment is expected to head to the whole House next week, this was an important step in putting action behind our words to stop Secretary Mayorkas' reckless and dangerous leadership at DHS. I spoke specifically about Mayorkas in an article for the Washington Times—you can read about it here.

This week in the Energy & Commerce Committee, I had the opportunity to question one of the EPA's senior officials on the agency's spending for new zero-emissions grants programs that leave nonprofits in control of your money. You can read more about the program below and why Republicans are committed to holding the EPA accountable.

Additionally, we officially passed the bill out of the House to rename the Melrose, Florida post office after Pamela Rock. Two years ago, Pam was tragically killed by a pack of vicious dogs while on her mail route in Putnam County. Renaming the post office after her is a fitting tribute to her service and the job she loved. Read more about it on our website here

Finally, Baker County is hosting a community resource fair for military members and veterans this weekend! This event will take place tomorrow, Saturday, February 3 from 10 AM to 1 PM. Click here to register.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

The EPA's Pointless Practices & Excessive Spending In Spotlight

Image

During this week's Energy & Commerce Subcommittee hearing, I questioned a senior official at the EPA about the agency's use of federal taxpayer dollars. The Biden administration has made it clear that it will push the boundaries of executive authority, and the EPA is no different, chomping at the bit for a green push to implement its "clean" agenda.

The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund is one such program that allows the EPA to hand our $27B to nonprofits and localities to support zero-emission technologies. Without oversight, however, this program will no doubt be mismanaged. I asked about how the EPA made these decisions and what their plans are for transparency and accountability.

The Emerging Landscape Of Sports Media

Image

This week, the Communications & Technology Subcommittee held a hearing on the emerging landscape of sports media. I asked the witnesses about the generational divide the sports media is seeing with millennials and Generation Z. With the Super Bowl approaching next weekend, this hearing was particularly salient.

Captain America At The Capitol

On Wednesday, I joined my colleague Rep. Smith from Washington, actor/director Mark Kassen, and Captain America himself, Chris Evans, for a segment with A Starting Point. Mark and Chris founded the platform in 2017 to help educate young people on current events and government, and now their videos are used in high school classrooms nationwide.

Nurse Practitioners In North Central Florida Medicine

Image

Christopher Evans, a nurse practitioner in-training from our district, visited Washington, D.C. to share information about nurse practitioners' scope of practice in federal law and the benefits nurse practitioners provide to patients and the medical community. We always love when constituents visit us in D.C. and I wish Christopher well as he finishes his final studies en route to graduation later this year! Thank you for visiting!

Farm Credit Florida Visits Washington

Image

Our friends from Farm Credit and Farm Credit of Florida were in town to visit this week. It was so great to see them and to thank them for all of their hard work supporting our agricultural operations across North Central Florida. Thank you for stopping by and sharing the latest on your work to support the men and women who feed, clothe, and fuel our nation.

Don't Mess With Texas

Image

As the Biden administration doubles down and tries to tell Texas it doesn’t have the right to defend itself, I stand with Governor Abbott and Texans across the state. Texas unequivocally has the right to keep its citizens safe with the record number of illegal immigrants surging across our southern border each day.

When Biden won’t do his job, Texas steps in. In the photo above, I'm joined by members of Texas DPS on the banks of the Rio Grande.

Hunter Biden's Fraudulent Past

Image

Last night, I spoke with David Asman on the Evening Edit about Hunter Biden's failure to follow the law. He is still licensed to practice law in D.C., despite professional misconduct in several instances.
