Week of February 5, 2024
Failed Leadership At Our Border & In Our White House

Dear Neighbor,

It's safe to say this past week was one for the books. Last night, President Biden took to the airwaves in an emergency press conference to confirm what most Americans have known for some time: the president's memory is not what it used to be. I share the same concerns as millions of Americans and know how important it is to have a strong, sharp mind in the White House.

This week in the House, I voted with 215 of my colleagues to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas from his position as the Secretary of Homeland Security. While the vote failed due to a procedural motion, Speaker Johnson will try this vote again next week. If you want to hear me break down this impeachment process, watch my latest Facebook Live here.

Back home in Florida's Third, I had the distinct pleasure to attend an event for our coastal communities that were hit so hard by Hurricane Idalia. It was an honor to attend this event and see how our community is strongest when we come together for a common good.

We'll be back in Washington next week for another big legislative week before a district week toward the end of the month. I look forward to seeing many of you then.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Biden Administration Bans U.S. Liquid Natural Gas Exports

Image

Two weeks ago, the Biden administration "paused" U.S. exports of liquid natural gas (LNG). While the administration called the decision temporary, we know the truth: it's an export ban with long-lasting ramifications for our nation and the world.
Florida is home to one of the country's largest LNG bunkering and storage facilities. Millions of workers nationwide power this industry and support our domestic energy independence. Without LNG, this administration funds our adversaries and allows them to fill the space once occupied by the United States.

I took to the House Floor to talk about this decision.

This Week In The Swamp...

This past Wednesday, I went live on Facebook to sit down and explain all that's been going on in Washington. If you want to hear more about Mayorkas' impeachment vote, Israel, and government weaponization, check out the video here!

Rebuilding After Hurricane Idalia

Image

Last night, I joined the folks from Friends of the Nature Coast in Horseshoe Beach to recognize the recovery efforts from Hurricane Idalia and the remarkable community fundraising and generosity that have allowed dozens of families to rebuild their homes and properties over the last six months. It is always an amazing opportunity to see these families and to let them know we're here throughout the journey to get Horseshoe Beach and other coastal communities back on their feet.

Take a look at the extraordinary efforts below.

Meeting With Suwannee County Schools

Image

Last week, I sat down with the leadership team from the Suwannee County Schools to discuss the latest on what the school district is doing to ensure students thrive. We also discussed RIVEROAK Technical College and the new programs offered to students as they pursue their vocational credentials.

Several months ago, Team Kat visited RIVEROAK to see the campus and learn more about their mission to provide opportunities for qualified workers for the job market. Thank you for taking the time to update us; we look forward to visiting again soon!

The Final Mile

Image

Thank you to all who have served and to those who continue to show honor and respect to our veterans. The Final Mile is a program that provides the community with memorial services for veterans whose remains go unclaimed and/or may otherwise receive little recognition. The above photo is from the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville during a special ceremony for a hero without next-of-kin.

Thank you taking care of our heroes. May they always be remembered.

Veterans' Advisory Council & Roundtable

Image

We recently hosted our Veterans' Advisory Council and Roundtable in our Gainesville office. We hosted our county veteran service officers (VSOs), officials from the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, and other leaders. We even had a special guest appearance from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough and House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Mike Bost.

It is always an honor to have real, in-depth conversations with our nation's heroes and I always welcome the opportunity to hear from them about the most important issues they hear about in our communities. Thank you to all who attended—we're looking forward to hosting another roundtable soon.

Why We Must Secure The Border

Image

Our border is a hub for illegal immigration, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. Now people engaging in this criminal activity can search on TikTok for access points and the best locations to cross our border and into U.S. custody. I talked about this and the blatant attacks on NYPD officers by illegal immigrants days ago.
