Week of February 19, 2024
Back In The District Working For You!

Dear Neighbor,

This week I was back home in the district after three long weeks in Washington! It is always great to be home working with my team to best advocate for the policy issues that impact and matter the most to you. This week, we visited Alachua, Marion, and Gilchrist Counties to meet with folks and hear from them about what's most on their minds. We're looking forward to sharing more details and photos from those stops next week.

While back home in Florida, I joined a letter with 80 of my peers to demand President Biden take a cognitive test. America is the greatest and most powerful country in the world, and the chief executive must be mentally and physically equipped to tackle the challenges we face. We're concerned about President Biden's mental fitness and are united in ensuring the president—no matter the party—is up to the job.

Additionally, the 2024 Congressional Art Competition is now open. I am so proud of the art our students produce in Florida's Third, and I can't wait to see what this year's competition has in store. Interested applicants can read more about submitting their artwork here. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 5 at 5pm ET.

Finally, after last week's schedule change, we're pleased to announce our February telephone town hall will take place next Thursday, February 29 at 7:30pm. More information on how to sign up to participate can be found below. We look forward to hearing from you next week.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

It's back! This year's Congressional Art Competition is open now through April 5th.

If you're a high school student interested in submitting your original artwork (paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed-media, computer-generated, or photography), this one's for you! First-place entry wins their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year. "Fan Favorite" (as determined by votes on Facebook) and "Office Choice" will earn their art displayed in the D.C. and district offices.

President Biden Must Take A Cognitive Test

Image

I joined over 80 of my colleagues on a letter to the White House demanding President Biden take a cognitive assessment. It's clear that his rambling, stumbling, and bumbling on the world stage is dangerous for our nation, especially after a Special Counsel declined to prosecute the president, describing him as a "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

The president's mental state is not at a competent level to serve as the leader of the free world.

Supporting Florida Blueberry Farmers

Image

Several of Florida's blueberry producers visited D.C. recently to share the latest on this spring's upcoming blueberry harvest. I'm certainly biased, but I think Florida produces some pretty delicious blueberries.

We also discussed the Farm Bill and its progress this year with the House Agriculture Committee. I'm looking forward to tasting some blueberries from this year's crop next month and taking some back to D.C. with me for folks to try!

Meeting The UF Speech & Debate Team

Image

Recently, I visited with the Speech & Debate Team at UF! Drs. Carter, Martinelli, and Rine Butler welcomed me to share more about my work in Congress and the importance of speech and debate in government and our society as a whole. I talked with them about what it's like to speak on the House Floor, in committees, and with groups that visit our office in Washington and in the district.

It was wonderful to see so many young students engaged in our civic process. They've also won a number of accolades in debate and forensics, and I can't wait to see where their accomplishments take them next. Thank you for having me!

Happy 7th Wedding Anniversary

Image

This week, Team Kat wished me and my husband Matt a happy 7th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed some time together and reflected on our privilege to serve North Central Florida. Thank you for all of the well wishes and notes this week.

AT&T Outage This Week

Image

Cell service outages were reported across Florida, most heavily impacting AT&T customers on Thursday. First responder agencies across North Central Florida have recommended using wireless calling in case of emergency or "SOS mode," which enables users without regular service to call 911 using other nearby, active networks.

Providers are working to restore service as soon as possible. As of Friday morning, most service had been restored.
