Week of March 4, 2024
The 2024 State Of Delusion

Dear Neighbor,

It was another busy week in Washington this week with committee hearings, visitors, constituent fly-ins, and Biden's State of the Union Address.

The president delivered his annual address to Congress last night and I attended out of respect for the institution that is the Office of the President, though I can't say I was surprised when Joe gave a campaign speech to fuel the fires of the liberal progressives in his base. He boasted about our open borders, funding Ukraine's war, killing the American economy, and more. I was certainly disappointed to witness the president's worst speech of his time in the Oval Office.

My guest for the evening was a constituent of ours in Florida, Mr. Ed Bravo. Ed's daughter Selena died in 2021 from fentanyl poisoning, and his presence at the speech last night was an ever-present reminder of the heartbreaking consequences of Biden's open borders. He is a living, breathing reminder of the thousands of American families missing loved ones as illegal drugs pour across our borders.

I joined a dozen of my colleagues on the Select Committee on the CCP and the Energy & Commerce Committee in introducing a bill to combat the Chinese Communist Party's influence on Americans. I spoke at a press conference and during remarks in committee about this important step. Take a look at the video below.

Finally, I also had the honor of meeting dozens of constituents, including veterans' groups like the VFW and the DAV, along with local firefighters from North Central Florida. You can see more about who visited this week below.

Next week we're back in Washington for another busy week before heading back home at the end of March. I look forward to seeing more Floridians in our nation's capital.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Protecting Americans From Communist China

Image

This week, I spoke with my colleagues from the Select Committee on China and the Energy & Commerce Committee about our just-released bill that would protect U.S. national security from applications owned by foreign adversaries.

The bill incentivizes the divestment from the People's Republic of China or prohibits TikTok in the United States. Its narrow framework only impacts entities controlled by foreign adversaries, not domestic ones, and promotes U.S. national security to keep the American people safe from the dangerous, growing influence of China and other nations in our society. It doesn't ban TikTok and doesn't censor free speech; it prevents China from targeting, surveilling, and manipulating the American people through a dangerous online presence.

The 2024 International Association of Fire Fighters Legislative Conference

Image

This week, I had the honor and privilege of speaking to 400+ fire professionals from across the country as part of this year's International Association of Fire Fighters Legislative Conference. Men and women from across the country, including our district in Florida, were in Washington to share with lawmakers their legislation to better protect our first responders and keep them safe from harmful substances on the job.

My dear Matt got to introduce me to a room full of firefighters and he absolutely crushed his remarks (great job, honey)! Our first responders are near and dear to my heart and it was an honor to host them in Washington this week and to spend time with some of our Gainesville and Alachua County leaders.

Please join me in thanking them for all they do!

Handwritten Letters To My Neighbors

Image

My mom always told me that "it's nice to get something in the mail that isn't a bill or junk mail," so she made handwritten letters a priority for me as a kid.

While I don't always get the chance or time runs short, I have always tried to handwrite notes back to folks who take the time to handwrite letters to me. This past Sunday, I took the time to handwrite responses to constituents.

Reacting To Biden's Speech

Image

This morning, I joined Neil Cavuto on Fox Business to review Biden's State of the Union Address last night. I gave him a failing grade as he spent more time on campaign rhetoric and pandering to his progressive base than trying to unite the country.
