Week of March 11, 2024
TikTok Under Scrutiny, Spring Begins In Washington, D.C.

Dear Neighbor,

This week in Congress, we saw a rare showing of overwhelming bipartisanship as the House voted to pass H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. The bill incentivizes TikTok to sever its ties with Chinese-owned ByteDance to remain operational in the United States to better protect Americans' data, privacy, and freedom from a known adversary of the U.S.

As a constitutional conservative, I do NOT support the unfettered access social media platforms have to siphon data from Americans. If I wouldn't want our government and American Big Tech companies to have this kind of access, why would I want the Chinese Communist Party to have it?

The warm spring weather in Washington brought with it a number of groups from Florida in town to share their priorities with me and our team, including the Florida Broadcasters, the Tim Tebow Foundation, and several others. You can read more about our visits with these groups below.

Next week begins our final week in Washington, D.C. before a two-week recess for the Easter and Passover holidays. I look forward to seeing many more constituents in town next week for Capitol tours, spring break visits, and beyond.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Weaponization Hearing On Big Banks' Collusion With Government

Image

During our recent Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government hearing with Dr. Jordan Peterson, we discussed how big banks colluded with the federal government to turn over consumer data that didn't belong to them—a clear violation of the Constitution's 4th Amendment.

In the United States, you are still innocent until proven guilty, which is why I expressed my deep concern with the witnesses over how Americans' constitutional liberties were abused by the government. Take a look.

Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act

Image

"We aren't infringing on the constitutional right to free speech or growing the size of government—all we're saying is 'break up with the Chinese Communist Party,'" I told my colleagues on the House Floor today during debate on this bill.

The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act passed the House in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 352-65. This bill does not ban TikTok: it gives them a clear choice to sever ties with the CCP.

Legendary Gator Tim Tebow Visits
The Hill

Image

It was great to have legendary Florida Gator Tim Tebow on Capitol Hill last week! He was in town to share the powerful work of his organization, the Tim Tebow Foundation, in fighting human trafficking and child exploitation. He testified before the House Judiciary Committee on this issue and met with members of the Florida delegation and some of the individuals helped through his group's work. Thanks for visiting and for your work, #15!

Discussing Top Local Issues Facing Florida's Broadcasters

Image

The Florida Association of Broadcasters was in D.C. for the 2024 National Association of Broadcasters State Leadership Conference. While they were in town, I met with them at the Florida House—the official embassy for Florida in Washington—to discuss the top local issues facing our broadcasters across the state.

Local broadcasters are an important part of our communities, delivering important local news and programming 365 days per year. Thank you for visiting and sharing the updates from our stations in Florida's Third!

Ed Bravo Is State Of The Union Guest

Image

It was such an honor to have Mr. Ed Bravo as last week's State of the Union Address guest from Florida's Third. If you didn't watch our Facebook Live last week where I shared more about Ed's daughter Selena and his important story, don't miss it. You can check that video out on our feed or by clicking the button below.

Ed's family's story is a heartbreaking reminder of what thousands of American families go through every year after losing a loved one to fentanyl. While Biden failed to even address fentanyl and blamed Republicans for a crisis of his own creation last week, we know the truth and will keep fighting for what's right to secure the border.

HR 7521 Passed Through House Of Representatives

I joined Dana Perino and Bill Hemmer on Wednesday just before the vote on H.R. 7521 to explain why the CCP wants unfettered access to Americans' data instead of selling TikTok and making billions of dollars.

TikTok Targeting Children To Call Congress

Image

Last week when the House Energy & Commerce Committee considered the bill passed through the House this week, TikTok pushed a message to its users requiring them to call their Members of Congress before they could proceed to the app. A blatant abuse of power, many of the people who called were children under age 18. What was worse: they were calling during the school day.

I joined Fox & Friends this week to explain why the Chinese Communist Part should not have unfettered access to any Americans' data, regardless of their age.

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to speak with Dagan McDowell and Sean Duffy on the TikTok bill that passed through the House of Representatives this week.

As a constitutional conservative, I don't want anyone siphoning my data, let alone the Chinese Communist Party. Do you? Click the button below to watch more.
