The House Considers Legislation Through The Weekend

Dear Neighbor,

This week was a long one—and it's still not over! The House will be in session through tomorrow to consider several important pieces of legislation. I spoke about what's been happening today on the House Floor in a Facebook Live here

It was a busy week in the Energy & Commerce Committee as we reviewed several pieces of legislation that deal with protecting you and your privacy online. This is of utmost importance to me and my colleagues because you deserve to be protected, not taken advantage for advertisers and third-party groups that use and sell your data for their own benefit. For more on this, take a look below.

While the Senate majority disappointingly dismissed the House-transmitted articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the work on securing our border continues. Thought the Senate won't take this matter seriously, we know how important this issue is to our national security and we won't stop fighting.

I also introduced a bipartisan piece of legislation called the Alleviating Barriers for Caregivers Act (ABC Act). This bill will reduce red tape for family caregivers through CMS and the Social Security Administration to allow family caregivers to spend more time with their loved ones and less time on paperwork. I was encouraged by the overwhelming support for this bill from my colleagues and folks like you who take care of loved ones each day. You can learn more about this bill and what it entails below.

Finally, tomorrow we will host the 2024 Congressional Art Competition judging and celebration in Newberry. We had over 70 high school students submit original art pieces for consideration and we're thrilled to invite these students and their families to show off their hard work with us. We'll announce the overall winner, "Fan Favorite," and "Office Favorite" votes in next week's newsletter.

I'll be back in the district next week and look forward to seeing many of you during my visits across North Central Florida.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Introducing The Alleviating Barriers For Caregivers Act (ABC Act)

Image

This week, I introduced the Alleviating Barriers for Caregivers Act (ABC Act). This bill acknowledges the over 48 million family caregivers in the U.S. and seeks to reduce the administrative burdens and red tape they face when trying to care for their loved ones and receive support from Medicare, the Social Security Administration, CHIP, and others.

Caregivers play an important role in our health care landscape and they shouldn't have to focus on duplicative paperwork and nonsensical forms instead of focusing on caring for their loved ones.

On Americans' Online Privacy, Keeping Kids Safe Online

Image

During Wednesday's Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee hearing, I spoke about the the typical user experience online and how Americans' data may be used to inform future habits. I also touched on the difference between an opt-in and opt-out mechanism and how an opt-in mechanism may better protect users' data.

Florida's Gubernatorial Fellows Visit D.C.

Image

This year's group of Florida Gubernatorial Fellows visited Washington recently! This non-partisan program immerses students from public and private universities in key areas of state government. During their nine-month tenure in Tallahassee, Fellows receive advanced on-the-job training as well as an invaluable front-line view of the inner workings of government.

We always love their visits in Washington each year and this class was no different. Thank you for stopping by and meeting members of the Florida delegation!

Several UF MBA students visited our office during a recent visit to D.C. These Gators are working to earn their degrees at one of the best business programs in the country.

It's always great to see them in Washington. Thanks for stopping by!

Speaking At U.S. Telecom's 2024 Connectivity Forum & Board Meeting

Image

I recently had the opportunity to speak at U.S. Telecom's 2024 Connectivity Forum & Board Meeting to hear from internet providers across the country and to share my priority to ensure all of Florida's Third has access to high-speed, reliable, affordable internet. The telecom companies represented at the meeting serve millions of Americans and work to develop new technologies to keep our communities connected.

Thanks for having me and allowing me to share my passion for rural broadband and my communities in Florida's Third Congressional District.

This year, more than 70 students from across Florida's Third entered this year's Congressional Art Competition.

The painting above is one of the many amazing pieces we received. It, along with the pieces from other students, will be judged at the official judging ceremony and Art Competition celebration in Newberry tomorrow morning.

Santa Fe College's Women Of Distinction Event In Gainesville

Image

It was great to join Santa Fe College's Women of Distinction event in Gainesville recently. The event brings together hundreds of community members to honor outstanding women in Alachua and Bradford Counties who have been working to better our communities in North Central Florida.

This year's honorees included Naima Brown, Vice President for Student Affairs at Santa Fe College, who supports student success on the job and in the community; Jeannine Hogue, lifetime volunteer for community service organizations in Gainesville; Chrissy Thompson, former health care worker, current restaurant owner and volunteer who promotes health in Bradford County; and Honesty Huston—this year's Woman of Promise—a recent graduate of Newberry High School and active volunteer who is aiming for a career in health care.

Congratulations to this year's honorees and thank you for having me!

Chicago's Hypocritical Woke Leadership, Border Failure That Killed Laken Riley

Image

Last night I joined Liz MacDonald on the Evening Edit to talk about Chicago's mayor blaming Republicans for the border crisis. I talked about this and the nonsensical, open-border policies that led to Laken Riley's death in Georgia earlier this year. Take a look below.

"The Secretary Of Cartel Security"

Image

Rep. Cammack joined Harris Faulkner on the Faulkner Focus yesterday to talk about Secretary Mayorkas's impeachment proceedings heading to the Senate. Rep. Cammack called Secretary Mayorkas the "Secretary of Cartel Security," as this administration has done far more for illegals instead of protecting our own national security. The Biden Border Crisis is largely a result of this administration's reckless policies, many of which we've focused on in the Energy & Commerce Committee.

Last summer we hosted HHS Secretary Becerra to talk about the whereabouts of missing migrant children in the U.S. under his department's 'care.' In case you missed that hearing last year, you can take a look at that clip here.
