Recognizing National Police Week On Capitol Hill

Dear Neighbor,

This week marks National Police Week! Here on Capitol Hill, Team Kat met with law enforcement officers from all across the district and the Sunshine State. We hosted a special night tour for them in the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday evening to show them their House! Thank you to our heroes in blue as they serve and protect our communities across the United States each day.

On Wednesday, I questioned witnesses on the Weaponization Subcommittee about the rampant use of lawfare by Democratic prosecutors to target their political opponents. Take a look at my exchange with the witnesses below to learn more.

We had several guests from Florida in town this week, including UF students, the Florida Farm Bureau, and talented science students from schools in Marion County. It was an honor to spend time with them and to welcome them to their office on Capitol Hill. Take a look at who was in town below.

Finally, our May telephone town hall is coming up this Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30pm. If you'd like to sign up to receive the call, please click here

Next week, the House is back in session for the final week before a Memorial Day break. I look forward to seeing many more visitors as we close out our final legislative week in May.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

This week marks National Police Week when we honor the brave men and women of our law enforcement communities across Florida's Third and the nation. To the men and women who serve on the front lines every day, we support you, appreciate you, and will always back the blue.

Stay tuned throughout the weekend as we honor our law enforcement heroes across the district and in D.C.

Rampant Lawfare Use To Target Political Opponents Is Wrong

Image

Earlier this week, I spoke in our Weaponization Subcommittee hearing about the use of "lawfare" to target political opponents, specifically President Trump. I've said many times that if it weren't for double standards that Democrats would have no standards at all, and that couldn't be more true when looking at how liberal prosecutors and DAs benefited financially from going after Republicans, including the former president.

National Marine Manufacturers Association In D.C.

Image

I had the opportunity to meet with the National Marine Manufacturers Association to discuss expanded boating and fishing opportunities in Florida and a proposed NOAA vessel speed restriction rule. NMMA represents nearly 80 percent of the marine industry in North America, including hundreds of marine-related businesses in the Sunshine State.

Thank you for stopping by to visit and share more about the work you do to support recreational opportunities in Florida waters.

UF's Beyond120 Students In Washington

It was great to see two-dozen Gators on the Hill this week with UF's Beyond120 program.

Beyond120 is the professional development and experiential learning program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Beyond120 program supports undergraduate students by cultivating career readiness through coursework and experience, and also works with alumni, industry leaders, employers, faculty, and parents to connect students with opportunities in the classroom, the workplace, and the world. Thanks for visiting our nation's capital and go Gators!

Thanks to everyone who participated this year and congratulations again to our overall winner, Nicole Miller of West Port High School with "The End of an Era," who will have her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol starting in June.

Visiting Seminole Feed In Ocala

Image

I had the opportunity to visit Seminole Feed in Ocala recently! With the Horse Capital of the World right here in Florida's Third, it's only fitting this family-owned operation is right in our backyard manufacturing the world's best equine feed. I got to visit the manufacturing facility and speak with some of the amazing people who work to support the equestrian and agriculture industries.

We talked about input costs and the crushing effect that Bidenflation has had on the business. We also discussed the importance of keeping these operations here in the U.S. and supporting American-owned manufacturers. Thanks for having us and showing us around this almost 100-year old business.

Community Care For Veterans

Image

The VA provides care to veterans through community providers when the VA cannot provide the necessary care. Community care is based on specific eligibility requirements, the availability of VA care, and the needs and circumstances of individual veterans. To be eligible for care, you must meet the requirements listed below.

You must meet both of these requirements:
- You’re enrolled in or eligible for VA health care, and
- You have approval from your VA health care team before you get care from a community provider (except for certain cases like urgent or emergency care)

And you must meet at least one of these requirements:
- You need a service that we don’t provide at a VA health facility, or
- You qualified under the 40-mile distance requirement on June 6, 2018, and live in a location that would still make you eligible under these requirements, or
- We can’t provide the care you need within our standards for drive and wait times, or
- You and your VA provider agree that getting care from an in-network community provider is in your best medical interest, or
- We can’t provide the service you need in a way that meets our quality standards
