Week of June 24, 2024
A Busy June Comes To An End

Dear Neighbor,

This week marked the last week in Washington for the month. Next week we celebrate Independence Day with events throughout the district, and I look forward to seeing many of you at parades and July 4th celebrations next weekend.

This week was another busy one in Washington, with many groups from Florida's Third in town, from FFA students to the winner of our 2024 Art Competition. We showed some students from Bronson FFA around the Capitol and attended the celebration for our top artist as the 2024 art pieces were hung in the tunnel to the U.S. Capitol. You can see photos from those visits below.

On Tuesday, Olympic legends Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt testified before the Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations about how other nations aren't held to the same standard by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). As the Olympic Games in Paris approach next month, it's important that the athletic competitions are fair. You can take a look at the remarks from the hearing below.

Finally, I previewed what I hope folks in North Central Florida most wanted to hear about from Presidents Trump and Biden in the debate last night. You can see what I hoped they would address, from inflation and the border to crime and foreign affairs.

We wish you and your family a great weekend and look forward to seeing you all in the district this coming week.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

National Right To Life's 2024 Conference

Image

This morning I spoke at the National Right to Life's annual conference in Washington, D.C. This group of passionate pro-life leaders from across the country gather once a year to share their stories and advocate for life. It was an honor to speak with them before a busy morning of votes on the House Floor. Thank you for taking the time to hear my story and why we must continue to fight for the most vulnerable among us—the unborn.

Honoring Our 2024 Art Competition Winner

Image

I was excited to welcome Nicole Miller, the 2024 Art Competition winner from West Port High School in Ocala to Washington! Nicole's piece, the "End of an Era," is on display in the U.S. Capitol along with artwork from congressional districts across the U.S.

This week, a celebration in the art competition winners' honor took place in the Capitol Visitors Center to recognize the outstanding work of talented high school students nationwide. Congrats again, Nicole!

Bronson FFA Visits Washington

Image

I was so glad to see four Bronson FFA students in Washington this week! They were in town for a national convention and stopped by the U.S. Capitol for a tour and an opportunity to meet with some of our current summer interns who are proud Florida FFA alumni.

I showed them the Speaker's Balcony and one of Florida's statues in Statuary Hall before posing for a few photos with a special blanket made from decades-old Bronson FFA jackets we proudly display in our office. One of the students mentioned her mom's high school FFA jacket is one of the jackets included in the quilt. Thank you for stopping by to visit and for your passion for agriculture.

World Anti-Doping Agency's Failure To Protect The Fairness Of Olympics

Image

On Tuesday, Olympic legends Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt testified before the Energy & Commerce Committee's Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee about the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and how it has continually failed to protect fairness in sport on the world's biggest stage—the Olympics.

I asked witnesses about what can be done to solve this problem and how other nations, including China, use their athletes as foot soldiers to subvert the rules, viewing the Olympics more as a geopolitical competition instead of one for sport.

As Team USA prepares to compete in Paris next month, this fairness in sport is pivotal to competition on the world stage.

Calling On USPS To Improve Transparency AT Jacksonville RPDC

Image

For months we've heard from constituents about not receiving their mail in a timely manner, especially if their mail is routed through Jacksonville's Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC). We've heard of lost mail, delivery delays, damaged parcels, and more.

I joined my colleagues in North Florida and South Georgia in calling on Postmaster DeJoy to provide answers about what's been happening and how USPS can work to fix it. Residents rely on the USPS for timely delivery of newspapers, lifesaving medications, and more. It's past time this problem is solved.

June 25 is Korean War Remembrance Day in Florida. We join the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs in saluting the Sunshine State's 75,000 Korean War veterans. Although forgotten by some, we will never forget the selfless service and sacrifice of those who fought and gave their lives.

The Most Important Issues For Americans

Image

Before the presidential debate, I spoke with Dagan McDowell and Sean Duffy about what the American people were hoping to hear about the southern border, inflation, crime, and more. Under the Biden administration, Americans have suffered from a failed economy, open border, and absent president.

Presidential Debates, Garland Inherent Contempt Resolution

I spoke with Chris Salcedo on the Biden administration's border failure and the recent murders of Americans at the hand of illegal immigrants. How many angel families will it take to secure the border or for this president to pay attention?
