Week of July 8, 2024
Reining In The Fourth Branch Of Government

Dear Neighbor,

It was great seeing so many of you last week at July 4th celebrations, parades, and community events. We enjoyed seeing so many smiling, patriotic faces.

I hosted a press conference this week with several of my House and Senate colleagues to spotlight what the Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo SCOTUS decision means for the fourth branch of government. A special thanks to Sens. Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Eric Schmitt, and Rep. Derrick Van Orden for joining me. You can view the press conference in its entirety below.

This week was a busy one in Washington, D.C. with a variety of hearings for the Energy & Commerce Committee and Weaponization Subcommittee. We hosted the FTC and FCC commissioners for two budget hearings and I asked them about their leadership and role in stepping outside their agencies' jurisdictions. You can take a look at those exchanges below.

In the Select Subcommittee on Weaponization, we examined how the New York District Attorney's Office's pursuit of President Trump was flawed from the start. My exchange with witnesses at that hearing is below.

The House also passed the SAVE Act, a landmark piece of legislation to protect the American elections process from non-citizens. It's clear that American elections are for American citizens only, not for illegal immigrants or foreign actors attempting to influence our nation. You can read about the SAVE Act and see my video about it farther down in the newsletter.

Next week we'll be highlighting on social media some of the important legislation we've co-sponsored recently on social media. Please stay on the lookout on our Facebook and X pages for more information.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Administrative State Forever Changed, Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo SCOTUS Decision

Image

The administrative state has been forever changed with the Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo SCOTUS decision. I hosted Senator Rand Paul, Senator Mike Lee, Senator Eric Schmitt, and Rep. Derrick Van Orden for a press conference about what this means for the future of the fourth branch of government.

ETHICS Act Will Cut Back On Corruption

Congress should not be allowed to trade individual stocks! I went live on Facebook on Thursday to talk about what Members of Congress should be doing instead of lining their pockets at taxpayers' expense.

Does The FCC Have A Role In Campaign Communications Using AI?

Image

This week, the FCC commissioners were before the Energy & Commerce Committee. I asked Chair Rosenworcel about why the FCC is working outside of its jurisdiction in attempting to govern the use of artificial intelligence in campaign communications, something that fits squarely within the Federal Election Commission's jurisdiction.

When I asked her about the communication she's had with the Chair of the FEC, she obfuscated and attempted to answer a different question than the one I asked.

Long story short: these agencies need to stick to their jurisdiction and quit attempting to expand into areas where they don't belong.

Federal Trade Commission In The Spotlight

During Tuesday's Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee hearing, I asked FTC Chair Khan about employee satisfaction at the FTC under her leadership. She certainly obfuscated to avoid answering the question. Take a look below.

NY Trial Rigged From The Start?

Image

During Wednesday's Weaponization of the Federal Government Subcommittee hearing, we discussed how the New York County District Attorney's Office weaponized the criminal justice system in pursuit of its perceived political enemy, President Trump.

The daughter of the judge in the case benefited financially from the trial, including for her Democrat clients, going against widely accepted ethics by all involved. Hear from FEC and legal experts about why the New York trial was wildly corrupt from the very start.

Passing The Save Act To Protect American Voters

Image

American elections are for American citizens. Period.

The SAVE Act would uphold and strengthen current law that permits only U.S. citizens to vote in federal elections by amending the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require states to obtain documentary proof of citizenship in-person when registering new voters. This isn't just commonsense, it's the right thing to do to make sure we safeguard and strengthen election integrity.

I was glad to join my colleagues in passing this bill out of the House this week. The Senate now needs to act.

American Elections Are For American Citizens

This week, the SAVE Act was on the House Floor. I spoke about it with Liz MacDonald on the Evening Edit to discuss why American elections should be for American citizens only.
