Week of August 12, 2024
Hurricane Debby Cleanup & August District Visits

Dear Neighbor,

This week in Florida's Third, Team Kat has been working with FEMA, the Small Business Administration (SBA), and other federal agency resources in our community to aid in recovery efforts after Hurricane Debby. Please remember our office is here for you and your family and will answer any questions about available hurricane recovery resources. Please contact our Gainesville District Office at (352) 505-0838 or visit our website.

Below we've included more information on recovery resources as several of our counties are included in the major disaster declaration following the storm. These resources are particularly helpful if your home or business sustained damage. Take a look and contact us if we can be of additional assistance.

This week was a busy one as I visited with Bread of the Mighty Food Bank, Feeding Northeast Florida, HAECO Airframe Services, and the deans of the University of Florida! From learning more about how we can work together to stop food insecurity to viewing a top aviation manufacturing facility to sharing opportunities for grant research at UF, I enjoyed meeting with our amazing neighbors who are working hard to support our neighbors, economy, and future leaders.

Finally, if you are or know of a high school or college-aged student in our area interested in serving our country, I hope to see you at our Service Academy Day! Next Thursday,  August 22, we will be holding an informational session on how you can apply for an appointment at our nation's service academies! Read below for more information on the event or give us a call in Gainesville.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Hurricane Recovery Efforts In Suwannee

Image

Last week, Senator Marco Rubio and I met with emergency management officials and members of the National Guard in Suwannee County to discuss hurricane recovery efforts after Hurricane Debby. We talked about the ongoing recovery efforts to provide supplies to residents affected by the storm and how we continue to work with federal agencies like FEMA to push for disaster recovery assistance that encompasses all of the affected areas.

I'm grateful to Senator Rubio for visiting our area and spending time with the men and women who work hard to keep our areas safe before, during, and after major storms.

Spending Time With Bread Of The Mighty Food Bank & Feeding Northeast Florida

Image

I had the distinct pleasure of joining the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank and Feeding Northeast Florida for their Boots on the Ground event in Gainesville. I shared an update about the Farm Bill in Congress and the importance of having a strong network of partners in our region to address food insecurity in our communities.

Thank you to the amazing volunteers and farmers who work to support our food banks with healthy, nutritious meals and thanks for having me at this amazing event.

Visiting With HAECO Airframe Services

Image

I had the privilege of touring the HAECO Airframe Services facility in Lake City to learn more about the work they do to support our aviation industry. HAECO offers a full suite of airframe services covering all common widebody and narrowbody aircraft and in their hangars can accommodate heavy maintenance visits, avionics and modifications, and passenger-to-freighter conversions.

It was great to learn more about their state-of-the-art facility in Florida's Third and how they make sure aircraft are safe for passengers in the skies. Thank you for having us and for your leadership in American manufacturing!

Meeting With UF's Academic Deans

Image

This week I led a meeting with deans of the University of Florida's academic and research disciplines to share more about how our team works to support our public universities with research and grant opportunities. UF is on the forefront of cutting-edge research in a variety of fields, from agriculture and medicine to veterinary science and beyond.

Team Kat is proud to have an economic development & grants coordinator on our staff to help our district community with projects that aim to improve our region and continue making it the best place to live, work, and play. Together we continue to support worthwhile efforts that move our nation forward.

Thanks to these busy leaders for taking time out of their schedules before a new semester starts.
