Week of August 26, 2024
August Is Almost Over!

Dear Neighbor,

Where did the time go? Just like that, August is nearly over and the House will reconvene on September 9.It's been an incredibly productive district work period and I'm thrilled to keep the momentum going into the fall.

This week marked the three-year anniversary of the deaths of 13 American heroes at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan. After the Biden-Harris administration hastily removed troops from Afghanistan with no withdrawal plan, we lost 13 service members in a deadly attack that could have been prevented. As we remembered them this week, we keep their family members and friends in our thoughts as they embark upon another year without their loved ones.

Back in Florida, our community remembered the life of USPS Carrier Pam Rock. Pam Rock served as a postal worker in Putnam County and was tragically killed in 2022 after being attacked by dogs while on her mail route in Interlachen. Together with Representative Aaron Bean and Senators Rubio and Scott, we passed legislation to rename the Melrose Post Office after Pam. Take a look at photos from the ceremony earlier this week below.

Last week we hosted our Service Academy Day at Forest High School. If you are or know a high school or college-aged student interested in pursuing higher education opportunities while serving our nation, our service academies are an excellent choice. To learn more about what was discussed at Service Academy Day and to see the full list of important deadlines this fall, give our Gainesville District Office a call at (352) 505-0838.

Finally, Disaster Recovery Centers are still open in our district. The Florida Department of Emergency Management operates a DRC in Dixie County at the library in Cross City. Read below for details.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Remembering Pam Rock & Renaming Melrose Post Office In Her Honor

Image

It was an honor for our team to honor postal carrier Pam Rock at a ceremony renaming the Melrose Post Office in her memory this week. Pam was a beloved postal worker who passed away in 2022 after a vicious dog attack in Interlachen while delivering on her mail route.

I worked closely with Congressman Aaron Bean, Senator Scott, and Senator Rubio to pass new legislation to name the post office in her honor, remembering all of her contributions to the community and Florida as a whole. With her family and friends in attendance, it was a fitting ceremony for someone we lost too soon. Thank you to the members of the community for joining us.

Service Academy Day At Ocala's Forest High School

Image

It was amazing to see so many young people and their families at our Service Academy Day event last week at Forest High School in Ocala. We had an excellent turnout of students ready to step up and serve their country, learning more about the application process for West Point, the Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Coast Guard Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy.

If you missed our event last week but are still curious about learning more about how to serve our nation and further your education, give us a call in Gainesville at (352) 505-0838.
