Dear Neighbor,

This was my last week home in Florida's Third before Congress is back in session for three weeks in September! It was nice to be back home and to visit with so many of you across the area. From Suwannee and Dixie Counties to Marion, Alachua, Baker, Hamilton, and everywhere in between, it was great seeing the best constituents in the country. One such recent visit was with the team at Cheney Brothers in Ocala. You can read more about the visit below. 

While I've been in Florida, my team in Washington has been hard at work gearing up for the House's return to session. This week we introduced my latest bill called the Citizens-Only Police Act of 2024, or COP Act! This bill prohibits law enforcement agencies receiving federal funds from employing non-citizen LEOs. Read more about the bill here and below. 

Additionally, I joined a group of my bipartisan colleagues from coastal states to push for FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund, or DRF, to be replenished. Funding for the DRF is currently at dangerously low levels, and if another hurricane were to strike, funds from other sources would be used to supplement the DRF, causing delayed payments and disrupting projects already in process from past disasters. It's paramount that our communities have the funding necessary to rebuild after natural disasters. Finally, keep reading to see my two interviews with Julie Banderas and Liz MacDonald. We discussed the Biden-Harris administration's failure to support Gold Star families who lost children in Afghanistan and their open border policies that have turned every state into a border state.

Introducing The Citizens-Only Police Act Of 2024 (COP Act)

On Thursday I rolled out my latest bill, the Citizens-Only Police Act of 2024 (COP Act). The bill prohibits law enforcement agencies receiving federal funds from employing aliens as law enforcement officers.

Earlier this summer, the Seattle Police Department announced it would soon start to fill its ranks with illegal migrants amid low recruitment numbers.

I think it's clear that law-abiding American citizens want U.S. citizens to enforce our laws, not foreign nationals. Read more about the legislation below.

Replenishing FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund (DRF)

This week I joined several of my colleagues—both Democrats and Republicans—in calling on Congress to replenish FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund (DRF). The DRF is critical for Americans in need after disasters, but it's not useful if it's out of funds, resulting in stalled payments, delayed grant awards, and delayed future disaster planning.

I'm calling on leaders in the House to make sure lifesaving resources are available to get communities back on their feet.

A Visit With Cheney Brothers Inc.'s Ocala Foodservice Distribution Center

I recently visited Cheney Brothers Inc.'s Ocala Foodservice Distribution Center in Florida's Third. A proud member of the International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA), Cheney Brothers supports our region in providing quality products to restaurants, universities, schools, and beyond.

Cheney Brothers is Florida born, and family owned and operated since 1925, with the 4th generation now in place. The team deploys a total of 1,800 tractors and trailers and 800 trucks traveling 23 million miles annually. It was great to hear from them about their growth along with the unique challenges in the workforce and supply chain.

I joined The Faulkner Focus with Julie Banderas to discuss the Biden-Harris administration's welcome wagon for illegal immigrants and criminals. Due to these failures, every state in America is a border state. 

Kamala Harris' Abandons Afghanistan Gold Star Families

This week Liz MacDonald and I spoke about President Trump's visit with our Gold Star families. These families lost their sons and daughters because of the Biden-Harris administration's decision to withdraw from Afghanistan with no plan. Both President Biden and Vice President Harris were invited to honor these fallen heroes but declined. It's shameful.
