Week of September 30, 2024
Recovery Efforts Continue & Speaker Johnson Visits Florida's Third

Dear Neighbor,

One week out from Hurricane Helene, we're working hard to gather damage assessment data and continue the long road to recovery in our communities hardest hit by the storm. Take a look at some of the photos and videos we've gathered below.

Yesterday, Speaker Mike Johnson joined me and Congressman Neal Dunn for a visit with our coastal communities. We took an aerial tour from Yankeetown to Steinhatchee, showing him the damage from above. You can read more about our visit below and hear what Speaker Johnson hopes Congress can do to help our communities and those in Western North Carolina.

Additionally, our ongoing legislative efforts to help our region recover are changing each day. Learn more about what we've done to coordinate disaster recovery with federal agencies, state emergency managers, and local officials.

During these unprecedented times, we acknowledge Rosh Hashanah this week. We wish everyone who celebrates a very happy Jewish new year and will always stand with our Jewish neighbors around the world.

Finally, please join us as we continue to pray for our communities here in Florida and our neighbors in North Carolina. This storm was one for the record books and we certainly give thanks for our safety when others were not as fortunate.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Speaker Johnson Visits North Central Florida To Tour Hurricane Damage

Image

Yesterday, Speaker Johnson visited our district to view the devastation firsthand from Hurricane Helene in our coastal communities. We took an aerial tour over Cedar Key, Horseshoe Beach, Suwannee, and Steinhatchee, and spoke with local leaders and members of the community who also endured Hurricane Idalia and Debby in the last 13 months.

We're going to continue our efforts to get our region back up and running and I'm grateful for the Speaker's commitment to this work and for taking the time to see what makes us #FloridaStrong.

Legislative Update For Hurricane Helene

Image

I provided an update on all of the legislative actions our team has been taking with other members of the Florida delegation to aid in our community's recovery from Hurricane Helene. We've received an updated disaster declaration to include more of our counties, and are working with USDA and others on damage assessments for our producers.

There's still much more work to be done and I'll continue to provide these updates on our website and social media pages.

Hurricane Helene Damage Via Drone

This week we captured some of the devastation from Hurricane Helene via drone to aid our damage assessment and recovery efforts. The footage helps our team and local, state, and federal authorities learn more about how the storm directly impacted our district and the exact equipment needed to help clear debris.

Surveying Damage From Helene With The Coast Guard

Image

This weekend we flew over the entire coastline (Horseshoe, Suwannee, Steinhatchee, Jena, Cedar Key, Keaton Beach) and covered the inland areas including Mayo, Live Oak, Jasper, Dowling Park, Lake City, and Perry. The aerial disaster assessments help our team understand the extent of the damage as we work to secure more resources for recovery. Thank you to the U.S. Coast Guard for the birds-eye view.

Hurricane Helene Damage In Suwannee

The day after Hurricane Helen swept through Florida, I was in Suwannee surveying the devastating damage following the hurricane. We've been in our communities from day one and will continue to be here throughout the hurricane recovery efforts.
