Week of October 21, 2024
Continued Hurricane Recovery, November Return To Washington Looms

Dear Neighbor,

November is right around the corner and I will soon be returning to my office in Washington to keep fighting for our neighbors in Florida's Third. This October district work period has been productive, working with folks from across the district. While October has been challenging with the hurricanes, our team stands by to assist. If you or someone you know are in need of assistance filing disaster claims or locating resources, please contact my team in Gainesville for more information. You can call (352) 505-0838 or email kcammack.hurricane@mail.house.gov.

This week I announced plans to introduce the Next-Generation Equity Savings Tool Act, or NEST Act. This bill will allow for first-time homebuyers to create a tax-free savings account to use toward a down payment and closing costs when purchasing their first primary. Over the last four years, it feels like the American Dream is slipping away, making it near impossible for first-time buyers to enter the market. Take a look below to learn more about this bill and stay tuned for legislative text.

Finally, nominations for our nation's service academies are due in just one week. Interested candidates should submit their materials as soon as possible. With questions, please contact Dorothy in our Gainesville office at (352) 505-0838.

Next week is another district week and I look forward to seeing many of you as we make stops throughout the area. The House returns to session on November 12.

With all that's happening this Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Next-Generation Equity Savings Tool (NEST) Act

Image

This week, I announced plans to introduce legislation to create tax-free savings accounts for first-time homebuyers. With the barriers around affording down payments and closing costs, the Next-Generation Equity Savings Tool (NEST) Act would allow more people to enter the market and ensure families and individuals who want to afford the American dream have every opportunity to do so.

Meeting With Qwake Technologies, Learning About Fire Safety For Our EMS Workers

Image

Before the October district work period I had the opportunity to meet with the team at Qwake Technologies, a company committed to serving first responders and firefighters with cutting-edge technology that improves safety, adaptability, and response times. Their proprietary C-THRU product's patented and intuitive visual communication platform defines the next generation of navigation, communication, and coordination in critical environments, including fires.

As the wife of a firefighter and first responder, I always love to see the amazing and innovative work done every day to protect the men and women who keep our communities safe. I look forward to following Qwake's work as it continues to develop.

Recovery Efforts Continue After Hurricanes Helene & Milton

Image

We know how resilient Floridians are and it was no different this time around with Hurricane Helene. While we've been visiting the communities hardest hit by the storm and hearing from them about what they needed most in the aftermath, we're so proud of the incredible people we serve in Florida's Third.

We're working with local leaders and state officials to ensure our constituents have the necessary resources. If you or a neighbor are in need of resources following the storm, please reach out to us. Our team is ready to support you, your family, and your business with assistance filing disaster claims and communicating with the federal agencies on your behalf.

Give us a call in Gainesville at (352) 505-0838 or email us at kcammack.hurricane@mail.house.gov.

Discussing Agricultural Damage After Hurricane Helene With Speaker Johnson

Image

In the days following Hurricane Helene, we partnered with Florida Farm Bureau and FDACS for a roundtable discussion about agricultural damage after the storm. Speaker Johnson joined us for the conversation, hearing from farmers, ranchers, and producers about what they lost and what still needed to be done to help our region recover with some crops already in the ground.

Our team is working around the clock to help with filing disaster claims and answering questions about available resources. If we can help you or your family, we'd be proud to walk this path with you. Reach out to us at (352) 505-0838 or email us at kcammack.hurricane.gov.

Caring For Veterans During Hurricanes & Providing Feedback On The Community Care Program

Image

Secretary of the VA Denis McDonough visited the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System last week and spent some time with Dave, our Director of Military and Veterans Affairs.

After Hurricane Helene, Sec. McDonough heard the stories of patients being transported at Bay Pines and Gainesville, ensuring all veterans were admitted to local facilities and cared for during the storms. He expressed his appreciation for the work of local leaders in our health system and Dave spoke with him about the present direction of the Community Care program. If you're a veteran and interested in learning more about the resources available to you in Florida's Third, please reach out to us in Gainesville at (352) 505-0838.

Vice President's Bogus Claims On The Southern Border

Image

Yesterday I joined Harris Faulkner on the Faulkner Focus to discuss why the Biden-Harris administration is finally talking about the southern border after four years of ignorance. Dangerous gang members are in the United States thanks to the years of ignorance by this administration.
