Week of January 6, 2025
A Busy Start To The 119th Congress

Dear Neighbor,

This week was a busy one as we began the first full week of the 119th Congress. While official committee business has yet to begin, we've had a busy week on the Floor with key legislation, including the Laken Riley Act.

Passed earlier this week, the Laken Riley Act honors Georgia nursing student Laken Riley who was tragically killed by an illegal immigrant. The bill holds the federal government responsible when it fails to enforce important border laws, like those that would have kept Laken's killer behind bars. You can read more about H.R. 29 below as it will soon head to President Trump's desk after passage by the U.S. Senate.

On Monday, the House of Representatives certified Donald J. Trump's election as the 47th President of the United States! I went live on Facebook to walk and talk on my way to certify the election with my colleagues. If you'd like to learn more about the process, you can click here.

I've also been proud to co-sponsor several pieces of legislation, including Rep. Thomas Massie's H.R. 24 to audit the Federal Reserve. You can read more about it and my introduced legislation, including the REINS Act, below.

Finally, next Tuesday, January 14 at 6:30pm is our first telephone town hall of the year. If you don't receive our telephone town hall phone calls, now's your chance to sign up so you don't miss one. See below for a link to our online sign-up.

With all that's happening this new Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

The Laken Riley Act Passes The House

Image

On Tuesday afternoon, the House passed, H.R. 29, the Laken Riley Act. The bill requires detention of illegal aliens who commit theft and allows a state to sue the federal government on behalf of their citizens for not enforcing the border laws, particularly in the case of parole.

In Laken's case, if local law enforcement had called ICE, and ICE issued a detainer and picked her killer up, Laken would still be alive. While we mourn her loss and continue to pray for her family and friends, we know this is a necessary step to protecting all Americans from Biden's dangerous border policy and ensuring it never happens again.

H.R. 24, Audit The Fed

Image

I'm proud to join my colleague Thomas Massie on H.R. 24, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2025, also known as "Audit the Fed." The bill requires the Comptroller General to conduct a full examination of the Fed's Board of Governors and the Federal Reserve Banks.

The American public deserves more transparency into the practices of the Federal Reserve, whose actions affect all of our daily lives. Thank you, Rep. Massie, for your leadership on this issue!

Introducing The Reins Act In The 119th Congress

Image

It's only the first week of the new Congress and we've already introduced two bills. The first, our beloved REINS Act, limits executive overreach, protects Americans from burdensome regulations, and stops the rampant regulatory regime. The bill requires any regulation that costs more than $100M to be approved by Congress before taking effect.

This bill passed the House last Congress, and now with a Republican Senate and President Trump on the way, this bill is primed and ready for the president's signature.
