Week of January 27, 2025
First 119th Congress Recess Week

Dear Neighbor,

On Wednesday night, the United States suffered a horrific and deeply tragic loss with the collision of an American Airlines flight with an Army Blackhawk. As of this newsletter, there have been just over 40 bodies recovered and officials do not expect to find any survivors. Our hearts ache for the victims and their families. The men, women, and children involved in the collision were talented students, athletes, soldiers, professors, and more. May God be with these victims and may God hold them dear while their families and friends grieve.

This week we marked National School Choice Week as we recognized Florida's great work as a leader in education. We are fortunate to have incredible educational opportunities for our students in the Sunshine State.

Next week we'll be back in Washington for a two-week sprint in February. I look forward to sharing more updates next week as committees pick back up and Congress gets back to work.

With all that's happening this new Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Sponsoring The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act

I'm a proud co-sponsor of Rep. Richard Hudson's Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act! Americans' 2A rights don't disappear when crossing state lines.

I'm looking forward to supporting this bill all the way across the finish line to President Trump's desk.

OMB Memo On Loan, Grant, Financial Assistance Pause

The White House has rescinded the above OMB memo to end any confusion created by the court's injunction against President Trump's pause of federal loans and grants. We're awaiting more information from the White House to clarify this guidance.

At this time, there is no effect on individual assistance programs, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, etc.

We are working to provide more guidance as it's available. With questions, please contact our D.C. office at (202) 225-5744.

Celebrating Ocala's New Safe Haven Baby Box at Marion County Fire Rescue

Image

Team Kat's Jeannie attended this week's special blessing of Florida's sixth Safe Haven Baby Box at Marion County Fire Rescue EMS Central in Ocala.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes provide a safe, anonymous option for parents in crisis. When a newborn is placed inside, the exterior door automatically locks, alerting fire rescue personnel to immediately retrieve the baby and ensure prompt care and protection. Since 2017, 55 infants have been safely and legally surrendered in a Baby Box.

This is an incredible resource for our community and we're proud to have it in Florida's Third!
