Week of February 3, 2025
HALT Fentanyl Act Takes Center Stage

Dear Neighbor,

This week was another busy one in Washington, D.C. As the Senate worked to confirm more of President Trump's cabinet nominees, the House was hard at work sending more legislation to the Senate before movement to the White House.

On Thursday, the House passed the HALT Fentanyl Act, a bill to make permanent the temporary scheduling of fentanyl-related substances. Many of us know people who have lost loved ones to the fentanyl crisis. House Republicans are committed to stopping the flow of fentanyl over our borders and supporting President Trump's agenda to stop the pain of losing friends, neighbors, and colleagues to fentanyl poisoning.

We also proudly introduced the Defending Domestic Orange Juice Production Act, a bill supported by the entire Florida delegation. Florida's oranges are one of our most prized commodities and I'm committed to working with my colleagues to support our growers amid natural disasters and citrus greening.

For those in Dixie County and the surrounding areas, we announced more progress on improving the navigability of the McGriff Channel/Wadley Pass. It has become increasingly unsafe for vessels of all sizes and we're working with the Jacksonville Army Corps of Engineers to restore it to its former glory. You can read more about the progress updates below.

Finally, I was honored to attend the historic executive order signing where President Trump affirmed that no biological men should have any role in women's sports. This has been an ongoing battle during the last administration and I'm proud to have been there to show my support and to declare once and for all that women's sports are for women.

Next week is another busy week in Washington, D.C. I look forward to sharing more updates next week as February marches on.

With all that's happening this new Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Passing The HALT Fentanyl Act

Image

On Thursday, the Health Subcommittee held a hearing on the fentanyl crisis just before the House voted on and passed the HALT Fentanyl Act, a bill to make permanent the temporary scheduling of fentanyl-related substances.

As the wife of a first responder, I know just how difficult the fentanyl crisis in our communities has been. President Trump is serious about halting the drugs at our southern border so fewer Americans endure the pain of lost loved ones to fentanyl. Take a look at my exchange with witnesses below.

Defending Domestic Orange Juice Production

Image

Florida's oranges aren't just one of our state's most iconic commodities or the main illustration on our license plates—they're a critical part of our state's history and our agricultural economy. With hurricanes and citrus greening affecting our citrus producers at alarming rates, the entire Florida delegation stands behind our growers in introducing the Defending Domestic Orange Juice Production Act.

The bill aims to update regulations and support Florida citrus growers amid outdated rules about the Brix content in orange juice and the threats from foreign markets.

The photo above features a visit to some of our orange groves by then-Senator Marco Rubio and my colleague Rep. Scott Franklin.

Securing Progress For McGriff Channel In Dixie County

Image

This week I announced major progress to restore navigability of McGriff Channel/Wadley Pass in Dixie County. The waterway, where the Gulf meets the Suwannee River, has become virtually impassable in recent years due to severe storms and hurricanes. I secured more action from the Army Corps of Engineers to continue progress toward restoring the channel and dredging it to make it easier for vessels to access.

This is an important step in ensuring the safety of everyone who wishes to use the channel.

Celebrating Appointees To Our Nation's Military Service Academies

Image

This week, I hosted a special dinner and celebration for our service academy nominees and our board members in Alachua. These students and their families have worked incredibly hard to achieve outstanding appointments to our service academies. We're so lucky to have Florida's Third serving our nation in the military.

Meeting With Alachua Sheriff Chad Scott

Image

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to sit down with Alachua County Sheriff Chad Scott and his team. After taking office after last November's election, Sheriff Scott has been working to serve the communities in Alachua County and make sure residents and stakeholders are updated about important programs and services offered in our area. Thanks for taking the time to meet with me and your hard work to protect and serve North Central Florida.
