Week of February 10, 2025
Securing Our Southern Border & American Leadership In Manufacturing

Dear Neighbor,

This week was another busy one in Washington, D.C. The Senate worked to confirm several more of President Trump's cabinet members and the House took action on critical legislation to secure our southern border after the damage done by the Biden administration.

In the Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, we held a hearing about leadership in American manufacturing and the role of AI (artificial intelligence) in American businesses. I closed out the hearing by asking witnesses what their top takeaways are for American consumers who want to increase their consumption of American goods and services. Take a look below.

Additionally, I joined forces with my Florida colleague Greg Steube in introducing the ACCESS Act, a bill to provide low- and middle-income Americans with the opportunity to pay for health care expenses using health savings accounts (HSAs) instead of relying on traditional government-backed cost-sharing options. You can read more about it below.

We had several visitors from Florida's Third in town, as well, with Florida National Guard's MG Haas stopping by, along with representatives from some of our leading fire equipment and fire apparatus manufacturers. If you, your family, or an organization you're part of are in town this spring, please reach out to us. We'd love to host you and roll out the red carpet for your visit to your nation's capital.

Finally, next week is a district week and we'll be visiting several of our counties for district visits and other important events! If you live in Baker County, we'll be on our way to you on Tuesday, February 18 for our first live listening session of the year. You can read more about the event below, and if you're not in Baker, please stay tuned because we'll be headed your way later in April.

With all that's happening this new Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Baker County Live Listening Session Tuesday

Image

Heads up, Baker County! We'll be hosting our first live listening session of the year at the Baker County Court House in Macclenny this Tuesday, February 18. Doors open at 5pm and seating is first come, first served.

This listening session is intended for Baker residents only and we'll be checking IDs at the door! We'll be visiting each of our 12 counties this spring for more listening sessions like this one and will still host our regular telephone town halls like we always do, so stay tuned for more updates about when we're headed to your county.

We hope we see our Baker neighbors on Tuesday. Reach out to our Gainesville office with questions at (352) 505-0838.

Introducing The Unauthorized Spending Accountability Act (USA Act)

Image

Earlier this year, I introduced the Unauthorized Spending Accountability Act (USA Act). The bill establishes a budgetary level reduction schedule to start in FY26 for any unauthorized program or activity listed in the Congressional Budget Office's annual report.

House Republicans are serious about spending and working hard to ensure we focus on America First initiatives with Americans' taxpayer dollars.

Introducing The ACCESS Act

Image

This week, I proudly joined my Florida colleague Rep. Greg Steube to reintroduce the ACCESS Act this Congress. The ACCESS Act, which stands for the Affordable Care and Comprehensive Economic Support through Savings Act, provides low- and middle-income Americans with the opportunity to receive direct contributions to an HSA (health savings plan) instead of relying on reduced cost-sharing under government-controlled health insurance plans.

After the Obamacare disaster, we understand how important it is for Americans to have access to the health care they need when it works for them, and providing more options to pay for treatment means more flexibility for those who need it most.

Fighting For Firefighters

Image

This week, representatives from the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers' Association (FAMA) and the Fire Emergency Manufacturers and Service Association (FEMSA) visited our office in Washington as part of their annual trip to the Hill! We discussed the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program and why it's essential for ensuring fire departments have the resources, personnel, and training needed to protect lives and communities effectively.

As the wife of a first responder, I'm always proud of the incredible work these folks do to support our firefighters and their work in our communities.

Florida's Adjutant General Stops By

This week, I met with MG Haas of the Florida National Guard! The Florida Guard's home at Camp Blanding in Clay County used to be part of Florida's Third and we're tremendously proud of the partnership we've developed over the years. Thank you to MG Haas for your leadership and to all of our Florida Guardsmen and women for all they do in service to the Sunshine State and nation.
