Week of March 10, 2025
  Keeping Government Open

Dear Neighbor,

This week was the last of three busy weeks in Washington, D.C. On Tuesday evening, the House voted to pass a bill to keep the government open and funded. The Senate plans to vote on the legislation this morning to support President Trump's agenda and keep the government open.

I introduced two pieces of legislation this week, one aimed at supporting our producers with necessary disaster assistance following hurricanes, and the second supporting maternal health. You can read more about each bill below and stay tuned for more legislative updates with more bills dropping in the next several weeks.

This week, we saw education leaders and UF student government members in town. We always love welcoming constituents from Florida in Washington and are excited to welcome even more groups when the House returns to session on March 24.

Next week is a big spring break week for lots of students in Florida's Third and our D.C. team looks forward to welcoming hundreds of visitors to the Capitol. If you'll be in town to visit, we can't wait to share YOUR office with you!

Finally, our very own Cedar Key has been nominated for America's Best Small Coastal Town by USA Today! To get Cedar Key across the finish line, you can vote on USA Today's website to show our Nature Coast some love. Keep scrolling for the link to vote.

With all that's happening this new Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Great to see these Gators from the UF Student Government team in Washington! Their annual trips provide an excellent chance for them to see the legislative process up close and meet some members of the Florida delegation.

Alachua County Firefighters Visit D.C.

Thrilled to see folks from the Florida Association of School Administrators in town yesterday! We had representatives from two schools in Florida's Third, along with a few others from Central Florida. We discussed issues important to keeping Florida the best state for education and ensuring our students are prepared to thrive in all aspects of their educational careers, from kindergarten through high school graduation.

Thank you for visiting and for helping to shape the next generation of American learners!

Supporting Maternal Health Initiatives

Image

I was proud to reintroduce the bipartisan Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act of 2025 late last week. The bill assists states in preserving maternal health throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Every mother deserves access to safe, high-quality care throughout her pregnancy and beyond, and this bill is a bipartisan, commonsense measure to strengthen families and support the strong women who bring new lives into the world.

Introducing Agriculture Disaster Relief Bill

Image

This week, we introduced the Fair Access to Agriculture Disaster Programs Act, which addresses outdated AGI limitations that prevent many full-time farmers from accessing crucial USDA disaster programs. The limitations have not kept pace with inflation, and specialty crop producers—including many of our producers in Florida—have been affected by natural disasters including hurricanes and severe flooding.

Our producers should know the aid they need to recover is available when they need it and I was glad to partner on this bipartisan and bicameral legislation to make these necessary changes. Read more about the bill below.

Visiting Baker County Christian Co-Op

Image

We visited the Baker County Christian Co-Op in Glen St. Mary to see the incredible work of their students and teachers. The co-op prioritizes the importance of school choice and provides students and parents with a thorough education centered on learning, good citizenship, and scholarship.

We're so proud Florida continues to lead the way for the best education for young learners. Thank you for hosting us and showing us around the classrooms and school campus.

Marion County Inspire Gala

Team Kat attended the Marion County Community Foundation Inspire Gala and presented congratulatory letters to all of the honorees who support our community and keep Florida's Third one of the best places to live, work, and play! Thanks to everyone for all the hard work honoring these folks!
