May Veterans' Resource Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

The spring marches on and the weather continues to heat up in Florida. This time of year brings more sunlight and the reminder that Florida's summers are on the way.

This month we take a moment to recognize Memorial Day and the brave men and women who sacrificed everything for our nation. I'm consistently reminded of the incredible service of so many men and women throughout our history who laid their lives down for this country. It is never lost on me what a true privilege it is to serve our nation in Congress and to keep making our nation the best it can be, thanks to those who gave their all. This Memorial Day, I invite you to stand with me in remembering those who never made it home.

Please see below for updated information about our Service Academy Day later this month, updated information for those receiving CHAMPVA benefits, and details about the Specialty Home Adaptation grant program.

With all that's happening this new Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Join us on Saturday, May 17th at Buchholtz High School in Gainesville from 9am-12pm to hear from representatives of each of the academies and members of our team responsible for receiving, processing, and making appointments to our service academies.

If you have questions, please contact us in Gainesville at (352) 505-0838.

Continuing CHAMPVA As A College Student

Image

To continue receiving CHAMPVA benefits as a college student, you must submit a school certification letter proving your full-time enrollment at an accredited educational institution to the VA, typically within one month of the start of each school term. This verification needs to be done until you graduate or turn 23 years old. For additional information or assistance in processing the necessary paperwork we encourage you to see your county veteran service officer or other VA accredited representative.

Special Home Adaptation (SHA) Grant

Up to $23,444 (FY 2024) is available for Special Home Adaption (SHA) if the servicemember, veteran, or a family member owns or will own a home and has a qualifying VA disability under the Special Home Adaptation Grant program (SHA). This grant helps those with certain service-connected disabilities adapt or purchase a home to accommodate the disability. For additional information on this benefit you are encouraged to see the Accredited Service Officer of your choice.

Update On COVID Separations
