Week of May 5, 2025
  Introducing The Gulf of America

Dear Neighbor,

This week was another busy one in Washington, D.C. full of meetings, committee hearings, important votes, and critical updates as we work to carry out President Trump's agenda.

This week, the House voted on a number of bills, including one to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America." You can read more about the bill below. I'm grateful to represent Florida's Third, which has newly-named Gulf of America coastline!

We introduced the App Store Freedom Act this week, a bill to protect consumers and promote fair competition on major app store marketplaces, like Apple and Google. You can read more about the bill and why this legislation has become so important with the growth of major app store platforms in the U.S.

As a reminder, our spring Service Academy Day will be next Saturday, May 17 from 9am-12pm at Buchholtz High School in Gainesville. Hear from representatives from each of our nation's service academies and learn more about our office's role in nominating young public servants for our prestigious military programs. With questions, please contact us in Gainesville at (352) 505-0838.

Finally, this past weekend we celebrated the Congressional Art Competition by hosting our annual showcase in Newberry. Thanks to all of our students, parents, and teachers for stopping by to support our talented students as they showed off their amazing work. We'll share more about the winners next week.

Next week is the third of four weeks the House is in session. Budget reconciliation remains the big focus for the House ahead of Memorial Day, so stay tuned as we share more details here and on our social media pages as this process continues.

We wish all of the mothers, grandmothers, mothers-to-be, and mother figures a Happy Mother's Day this weekend!

With all that's happening this new Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

An Update From D.C.

Image

Last night I shared a late-night update from the office about so much going on in our nation’s capital. Reconciliation, the Gulf of America, trade deals, and much more!

Florida Cattlemen's Association Visit

Image

Great to see the gentlemen from the Florida Cattlemen's Association in Washington! They're in town as part of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association's annual visit to town and it was great to catch up with them and to thank them for all they do to support our robust cattle and agriculture industries in the Sunshine State!

Introducing The App Store Freedom Act

Image

On Tuesday, I proudly introduced the App Store Freedom Act, a bill to promote competition and protect consumers and developers in the mobile app marketplace, like the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

For years, dominant app stores have controlled customer data and forced consumers to use the marketplaces' own payment platforms and services, instead of allowing consumers to choose their own platforms and apps. This is a game-changer for American consumers and gives them more choice and control over their devices than ever before.

Read more about the bill below.
