Week of May 12, 2025
  The One Big, Beautiful Bill

Dear Neighbor,

This week was a long one, as we made our way through two multiple-day markups in the Energy & Commerce Committee and Agriculture Committee to advance President Trump's "one big, beautiful bill." I kept everyone updated through multiple Facebook Live updates on Tuesday and Wednesday, which you can check out on Facebook here. We voted to advance our portions of the bill out of each committee, but as of this afternoon, the House Budget Committee is still considering the legislation before it heads to the full House. We'll have an update next week.

This week also marked National Police Week. In between 24-hour+ markups, we visited with some of our law enforcement officers in town from Florida's Third. It is always an honor to support our heroes and thank them for all they do to protect and serve our communities.

As a reminder, our spring Service Academy Day will be this Saturday, May 17 from 9am-12pm at Buchholtz High School in Gainesville. Hear from representatives from each of our nation's service academies and learn more about our office's role in nominating young public servants for our prestigious military programs. With questions, please contact us in Gainesville at (352) 505-0838.

Next week is the fourth of four weeks the House is in session. Budget reconciliation remains the big focus for the House ahead of Memorial Day as we work to get this bill across the finish line, so stay tuned as we share more details here and on our social media pages as this process continues.

With all that's happening this new Congress, it is my greatest honor to represent you and hear from you about the issues that matter most. You can read below about what we've been up to this week, and as always, you can stay up to date with us here, on our website, and on XFacebookInstagram, and YouTube.

For the Republic,

Navigating Two Marathon Markups

Image

On Wednesday we wrapped up a 26.5 hour markup in the Energy & Commerce Committee and moved the ball forward on our big, beautiful bill! The same could be said at 10pm that evening for a marathon markup in the House Agriculture Committee.

For me, this was 37 hours of straight committee markups while six months pregnant with Baby Peanut (mamas and mamas to-be are tough as nails)! Definitely not complaining—I love the deliberative "regular order" process and giving Americans a behind-the-scenes look at what’s happening in their nation’s capital.

National Police Week

Image

This National Police Week, we recognize all of the men and women of law enforcement in Florida's Third and the Sunshine State. It's hard to truly know what our police and sheriff's teams do on a daily basis, encountering people on their worst days and during their times of need, running toward danger instead of away from it.

To all of our law enforcement heroes at all levels, whether local, state, or national, we're grateful for everything you do every day to protect and serve our communities. We will always be thankful and we will always #BackTheBlue.

During National Police Week, Team Kat honored our fallen law enforcement officers at the Marion County Fallen Officer Memorial. FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass provided special remarks to the families of men and women lost in the line of duty while serving and protecting our communities. Thank you to our police heroes for all you do to keep us safe. We will forever be grateful and we will always Back The Blue.
