Dear Friend,

I'm continuing to work closely with federal, state and local officials to monitor and fight the coronavirus in our community. There has been a lot of new information about the coronavirus and our community’s response, so I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss anything:

Stimulus Check Update: Nearly 80 million Americans have received their economic stimulus payments as of yesterday. To help taxpayers get their CARES Act stimulus payments as soon as possible, the IRS launched the "Get My Payment" web app this week. The app allows you to:
  • Check your payment status
  • Confirm your payment type (direct deposit or check)
  • Enter your bank account information for direct deposit
NOTE: In certain cases, the "Get My Payment" app will be unable to tell users the status of their payment. You may receive an error message if you:
  • Are not eligible for a payment (see the FAQs on who is eligible and who is not eligible)
  • Are required to file a tax return and have not filed in tax year 2018 or 2019
  • Recently filed your return or provided information through the Non-Filers Form (payment status will be updated when processing is completed)
  • Are a Social Security or VA benefit recipient (the IRS is working with the relevant agency to issue payments and information is not available in this app yet)
  • Tried to enter your information too many times and are locked out for 24 hours (information is updated once a day)

My office and I are aware of this error message and difficulties accessing the system and want to be helpful. Please contact us with any issues you're experiencing at (202) 225-2706.

Paycheck Protection Program Update: Yesterday, the PPP officially ran out of funds to help keep our small businesses afloat and keep employees on payroll. Our small businesses not only employ workers but are what make our communities unique. This is why I am urging my colleagues in Congress to get back to work to approve additional funding for this program to ensure these businesses can keep their doors open!

Here are the latest stats on the Paycheck Protection Program:
  • As of Wednesday night, more than 1,100,000 loans have been approved for small businesses around the country
  • Almost $270 billion in loans have been processed and nearly 4,800 lenders have participated nationally
  • In Floridamore than 50,000 program loans have been given out to small businesses, amounting to nearly $13 billion distributed as of Monday
