I’m continuing to work closely with federal, state and local officials during this pandemic to monitor and fight the coronavirus in our community. As many of you know, there’s a lot of new information about the coronavirus in our area, including mask orders and back-to-school plans for the upcoming school year. Here are the latest updates:
MASK ORDER UPDATES:
- Volusia County:
- Daytona Beach has issued mandatory mask requirements
- Civil fines are now in place for those who don’t wear masks indoors or outdoors when social distancing isn’t possible:
- $50 fine for first offense
- $50-100 fine for second offense
- $150 for offenses thereafter
- New Smyrna Beach has issued mandatory mask requirements
- Masks are required in indoor spaces or when social distancing is not possible
- Will not be enforced by police
- NO fines or charges for non-compliance
- DeLand has issued mandatory mask requirements
- Masks are required in indoor spaces or when social distancing is not possible
- Fines and charges for non-compliance, include:
- $25 fine for first offense
- $50 for second offense
- $100 for offenses thereafter
- Orange City has issued mandatory mask requirements
- Masks are required in indoor spaces or when social distancing is not possible
- Fines and charges for non-compliance, include:
- $25 fine for first offense
- $50 for second offense
- $100 for offenses thereafter
- Deltona has passed a resolution encouraging the use of masks
- Masks are required in indoor spaces or when social distancing is not possible
- This is an encouragement NOT a mandate
- NO fines or charges for non-compliance
- Flagler County:
- Flagler Beach has issued mandatory mask requirements
- Masks are required in indoor spaces or when social distancing is not possible
- This is an encouragement NOT a mandate
- NO fines or charges for non-compliance
- Palm Coast has issued mandatory mask requirements
- Masks are required in indoor spaces or when social distancing is not possible
- This is an encouragement NOT a mandate
- NO fines or charges for non-compliance
- Lake County:
- Mount Dora has passed a resolution encouraging the use of masks
- This is an encouragement NOT a mandate (no fines or charges)
- Face Coverings are a REQUIREMENT indoors in public spaces
- Mask NOT required if outdoors and practicing social distancing
- Businesses and restaurants can refuse the right to entry without a mask
REOPENING FLORIDA SCHOOLS: Last week, Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran ordered all Florida public schools to reopen in August. According to Commissioner Corcoran, schools will offer “the full panoply of services” to students and families.
- Volusia County Schools voted to postpone school start day by one to two weeks
- Flagler County Schools will return to in-person classes on August 10
- Students will be strongly encouraged to wear face masks but are not required to
- If you would like to select the remote learning option or change your original choice, make sure to contact your school by the end of today, Monday July 20th
- St. Johns County Schools gave students and parents the ability to select one of the four options proposed for the upcoming semester
- If an option was not selected by the deadline, students are automatically selected to attend traditional brick and mortar school
- Lake County Schools are giving students and parents until TODAY, July 20 to select one of the three options proposed for the upcoming semester:
- Option 1: Traditional school (Only in person)
- Option 2: Virtual school (Only online)
- Option 3: Modified day (Math and language arts in person and the rest online)
