Dear Friend,
Thank you for reading my newsletter! My team and I continue to work for you and our community. It was a very eventful week and I’m excited to tell you about what we accomplished. Here are some highlights:
- I co-sponsored a bill to limit Big Tech censorship of American voices on social media
- President Trump signed my legislation naming the new Veterans Affairs clinic in St. Augustine after St. Johns hero U.S. Army Private First Class Leo Chase Jr.
- I called upon Speaker Pelosi to negotiate COVID relief for the American people
- Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune’s statue is finally underway to soon represent Florida in the U.S. Capitol
LIMITING BIG TECH CENSORSHIP: This week’s widespread censorship of a New York Post article critical of Joe Biden has made it clear Big Tech’s censorship is dangerous to free speech, especially among conservatives. It’s time for Congress to check their unlimited power, which is why I’m co-sponsoring legislation to limit Big Tech censorship by empowering allowing Americans to hold Big Tech accountable for acting in bad faith. I fought around the world for our country and our First Amendment rights. Our voices deserve to be heard and Big Tech must be held accountable.
HONORING PRIVATE FIRST CLASS LEO CHASE: U.S. Army Private First Class Leo Chase Jr. was the first St. Johns County soldier lost in the Vietnam War. Chase was just days from finishing his tour when he and his fellow soldiers were airlifted into South Vietnam. Though they were outnumbered nearly 10 to one, Chase and his platoon bravely repulsed massive ground assaults from the Viet Cong, all while taking enemy fire.
Leo Chase is a Florida hero and I’m very excited to announce President Trump has just signed a bill to name St. Augustine’s new top-notch Veterans Affairs clinic after Leo Chase! I’m proud to have worked with Rep. John Rutherford and Sen. Marco Rubio on this measure, so all who enter this clinic will know Leo Chase and his story!

In August, I visited the new VA clinic that will be named after Chase to check out the construction progress. I can’t wait to see the finished product next summer!

SPEAKER PELOSI FAILS TO DELIVER FOR AMERICA: Many of you have told me you’re waiting on Congress to act for another round of COVID relief – and I’ve been pushing to get it passed. Unfortunately, Speaker Pelosi is unwilling to help Americans struggling to put food on their tables and small businesses fighting to keep their doors open. Just weeks ago, Speaker Pelosi said she’d take a piece by piece approach to stimulus. Now, she’s done a complete 180 and is refusing to come back to the negotiating table altogether.
The American people are tired of her flip-flopping and so am I. This is why I’ve signed onto a petition to release $135 billion of unused PPP funds to small businesses. Instead of even considering these standalone provisions, Speaker Pelosi is busy creating a committee to invoke the 25th amendment to deem President Trump unfit to serve. It’s time for Speaker Pelosi to quit playing games and negotiate a bipartisan agreement to deliver for the American people.

CELEBRATING MARY MCLEOD BETHUNE’S LEGACY: Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune was a strong woman who dedicated her life to fighting for civil rights through education. As a child, Bethune loved to teach and was destined to be an educator. Today, Dr. Bethune’s legacy lives on at Bethune-Cookman University and continues to inspire Floridians and Americans across the nation.
I’m proud to join our community and state to celebrate and honor Dr. Bethune by commissioning a statue of her to represent Florida in our nation’s Capitol. As of this month, her statue is finally underway and is being carved from the same marble as Michelangelo’s statue of David. I can’t wait to welcome Dr. Bethune’s statue to the U.S. Capitol!
