Listening to Floridians

Dear Friends:

Last week, U.S. astronauts returned home, splashing down in the Gulf of America off Florida’s coast after delays and more than a nine month stay on the International Space Station. Dolphins welcomed Space X Crew-9 pod! I am grateful for their safe return home and for Space X technology and equipment!

As an engineer, member of the Science, Space and Technology Committee, and Floridian, I have witnessed Florida’s essential role as a hub for the United States space industry. For decades, Florida has been on the forefront of space exploration, resulting in high-tech jobs, cutting edge research and economic prosperity in our state. I will continue to advocate for advancements in discovery and exploration of the final frontier.

Empowering Parents

On Thursday, President Trump signed an executive order to return control of education to parents, local communities, and the states. For too long, Washington bureaucrats and union bosses have prioritized politics of the education of students. I believe that issues in education are best dealt with at the local level, with parents having the power to choose from all public, private, and home-schooling options. President Trump’s order requires Secretary McMahon to ensure the effective and uninterrupted delivery of services and programs including the Office of Civil Rights, Students with Disabilities, Title 1, Special Education and Financial Aid.

During my time in the Florida legislature, I championed the Florida law that legalized home education, created the largest virtual school in the nation – the Florida Virtual School – and opened the door for additional alternate education opportunities. By eliminating federal overreach, President Trump is working to ensure that your tax dollars are spent where they matter most: in the classroom and not on bloated bureaucracy.

Seeing and Serving You

Recently, I visited Horizon High School where I met with students from the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) programs. It was great to speak with these young men and women who embody the values of hard work and discipline. Thank you, Principal Andrew Jackson and staff, for the tour around campus!

Constituent Corner

A constituent from Lake County submitted his application for Social Security retirement benefits. After waiting nearly two months for his paperwork to be processed, he contacted our office. We submitted an inquiry to the agency who completed and approved the application the same week.

Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you.
