News From Congressman Bilirakis

Dear Neighbor,

President Trump delivered a powerful message in a joint Session of Congress last week. He summarized the impressive work that has already been achieved during his term and laid out a clear vision for how he plans to continue restoration of an America First agenda. I look forward to working alongside him to help realize these critical goals.

Restoring Fiscal Sanity: As we work through the budget reconciliation process in Washington, DC, I’ll be keeping the feedback from my constituents in mind.  I recently held forums throughout our community to gather your thoughts on where cuts should be made.  One example that we can all agree on is rooting out corruption, fraud and waste.  A common sense bill I have co-authored with Senator Scott will help cut fraudulent payments and help strengthen the Medicaid program for the most vulnerable Americans. I also attended a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) briefing with Elon Musk. He and his team briefed the Republican conference about the work they are doing to root out waste, fraud, and abuse. The Golden Age of America will bring back fiscal sanity!

Additionally, we are delivering on our promises of regulatory relief, energy independence and lower prices. As part of that effort, we passed two measures last week to reverse harmful Biden Administration policies.

Securing the Border: Hundreds of thousands of criminals were let into this country illegally. We are sending them home and will make sure they can never return.

Improving Access to Care: Physical therapy is a vital component of our healthcare system. I’m working on legislation that will help expand seniors’ access to these critical services. Click here to learn more about my efforts.

Also, I recently had a great conversation with Dr. Patrick Hwu, CEO of Moffitt Healthcare about the ways we can work together to help them meet the needs of their cancer patients.

Additionally, I met with the CEOs of local hospitals about the challenges they are facing and ways we can work together to improve patient care.

Working with Local Officials: I had the pleasure of meeting with Pasco County fire safety officials and Commissioners Jack Mariano and Kathryn Starkey in DC last week.  It was great to discuss ways these local leaders and I can continue working together to strengthen our community and better serve constituents.

Advocating for our Nation’s Heroes: Last week, I had the chance to meet with local Veterans and members of the VFW who were in DC advocating for improved benefits and health care for our nation’s heroes. I look forward to working with them on these priorities.

I also welcome the introduction of the Senate companion to my PAPR Act. Together, Senator Scott and I will work to remove barriers to Veterans getting the benefits that they’ve earned. Click here to read more about our joint efforts.

Protecting Student Athletes: Student athletes have the right to benefit from use of their name, image and likeness (NIL) but the rapid evolution of NIL has created a chaotic and unpredictable system. During last week’s Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade Subcommittee hearing, we discussed ways to stabilize the NIL environment and ensure the well-being of student athletes while preserving the integrity of college sports. Click here to listen to my comments during the hearing.

Strengthening our Nation’s Communications Infrastructure: Despite lofty promises, the Biden Administration’s broadband agenda left many Americans behind. The Broadband, Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program was saddled with unnecessary red tape and led to not a single inch of fiber actually being laid. In last week’s Communications and Technology Subcommittee hearing, we examined how to address critical issues impacting the broadband landscape to ensure all Americans are connected. Click here to listen to my exchange with the panelists.

Fighting for Vulnerable Children and Families: The Recruiting Families Using Data Act of 2025 passed the House last week with my support. It requires state plans for child welfare services to provide for the development and implementation of a family plan to improve foster placement stability, increase rates of kinship placements, and align the composition of foster and adoptive families with the needs of children in or entering foster care.

Community Connection

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.

My team attended the groundbreaking of Bridging Freedom's new human trafficking prevention center in Pasco County.

My team also attended the Five for Five Scholarship Dinner in Trinity.

Additionally, my team attended the February meeting of Resiliant Women in Hernando County.  It was great to hear about their efforts to empower other women throughout the community.

Constituent Corner

My team recently received this message after helping to resolve a problem our constituent was having with the VA .

I wanted to thank you for your help. The VA fixed the error a few days after getting your letter. Again thank you.

This  is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
