Dear Neighbor,
This past week, I remained focused on advancing policies that strengthen public health, protect our natural resources, and support families across Florida’s 12th District and our nation. From safeguarding our waterways and improving healthcare outcomes to supporting our farmers and engaging directly with constituents, I am committed to delivering meaningful results on the issues that matter most. Continue reading to learn more about my efforts on your behalf.
Safeguarding the Quality of Our Water: Much of our nation’s drinking water is sourced from our rivers, yet these vital resources face increasing threats from groundwater withdrawals, agricultural runoff, and sewage pollution. Protecting them is not optional - it is essential to public health, environmental sustainability, and the future of our communities. I remain committed to advancing efforts that safeguard and preserve Florida’s waterways for generations to come.

Outdated septic systems in Hernando, Citrus, and Pasco Counties are putting the health of our waterways at risk. My colleagues and I are advancing legislation to ensure that financial assistance intended to protect the environment and public health - by modernizing and upgrading these systems - does not result in an unexpected tax burden for families. Strengthening our National Security: I am thankful for the swift and decisive actions of law enforcement in subduing the shooter at last weekend’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Moments like this are a reminder that the unity and resilience of our nation cannot be shaken by individuals driven by violence and hatred. I’m especially grateful for the dedication of the United States Secret Service and all law enforcement officers who work tirelessly each day to protect our nation’s leaders and institutions. Their professionalism and courage are essential to preserving the safety and stability of our nation. That’s one of the reasons I was proud to support funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which was signed into law last week. It’s critical that we continue to provide the resources necessary to support their mission and ensure the safety of the American people.
Improving Healthcare Outcomes: During a recent Health Subcommittee hearing, I had the opportunity to question Secretary Kennedy on several critical priorities. These included making the Priority Review Voucher Programs for Childhood Cancer Treatments permanent, accelerating the development and approval of treatments for rare diseases, and addressing the urgent need to expand federal research into the connection between environmental toxins and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease. Advancing this work is essential for the millions of Americans and families impacted by these conditions. I remain committed to working alongside the Administration to drive meaningful progress on these important issues. It is also critical that we continue to support robust federal research into the alarming rise in colorectal cancer diagnoses among younger Americans, while raising awareness about the early signs and symptoms of this disease. Early detection saves lives, and increased research will help us better understand underlying causes, improve prevention strategies, and develop more effective treatments. Learn more here.
Additionally, during last week’s Health Subcommittee hearing, we reviewed a series of important bills aimed at safeguarding access to healthy, natural food and beverages. These measures reflect a broader commitment to promoting transparency, protecting consumer choice, and ensuring families have continued access to safe and wholesome options. Keeping America Fed: I was proud to support the Farm Bill, which passed the House last week. This important legislation strengthens our agricultural economy and supports Florida’s farmers as they work every day to keep fresh, nutritious food on our tables. There is a direct connection between healthcare outcomes and access to healthy food. By investing in our producers and safeguarding our food supply, this bill helps ensure America remains strong, resilient, and well-fed.

Strengthening Alliances: From my vantage point at last week's Joint Meeting of Congress, the historical significance was not lost on me to see George Washington peering over King Charles's right shoulder. What a difference 250 years makes! Our nations share not only the same history, culture and values, but an enduring partnership that has helped advance freedom, security, and prosperity across the globe. God bless America!
Learning from You: It is always a pleasure to meet with the National Association of Electric Cooperatives, including local leader Dave Lambert from WREC, who was on Capitol Hill to highlight efforts to make energy more efficient, reliable, and affordable for rural customers. I appreciate their continued commitment to strengthening our energy infrastructure and supporting the communities they serve.

I also had the opportunity to meet with constituents visiting Washington, D.C., to discuss the challenges facing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). These frontline healthcare professionals play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality care. We must ensure they have the appropriate regulatory framework and support needed to continue their essential work while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety.

A dedicated group of local pathologists from Moffitt Cancer Center also met with me in Washington to share insights into their groundbreaking work advancing early cancer detection and improving treatment outcomes. Their efforts are helping to drive innovation, identify disease earlier, and develop more precise, life-saving therapies.
Additionally, it was an honor to attend the St. George Greek Church’s Gala in New Port Richey. It is an inspiring annual tradition that brings the community together in support of meaningful causes. This event not only celebrates faith and fellowship, but also raises critical funds for local charities, making a lasting impact on those in need.
Celebrating Success: Congratulations to Eric Williams, City Manager of Inverness, on being named one of the nation’s Top 10 City Managers. Eric is a true professional who consistently demonstrates strong leadership, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to serving the Inverness community. His dedication to excellence has made a meaningful impact on the city’s continued growth and success. Learn more here.
Raising Awareness: May is Mental Health Awareness Month - a time to elevate the conversation around mental health and reaffirm our commitment to those who are struggling. We must continue working to break down the stigma associated with seeking care while ensuring individuals and families have access to the behavioral health services they need. Expanding awareness, improving access, and fostering a culture of understanding are essential steps toward building stronger, healthier communities.

Community Connection
I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.
My team was honored to attend the 100th birthday celebration of constituent Art Fuxan, a proud World War II Veteran whose life reflects courage, service, and unwavering devotion to family and community. At just 18, Art enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving as a Radio Operator Mechanic and Air Crewman in Guam, where he worked on B-29 aircraft and even volunteered for a mission in preparation for the invasion of Japan. After the war, he earned a degree from Loyola University through the G.I. Bill and built a successful career, while remaining deeply committed to service as an Eagle Scout, Scoutmaster, Eucharistic Minister, and Knight of Columbus. Art shared a lifelong love story with his wife, Pat - raising four children and building a legacy that now spans generations. His devotion to her during her battle with Alzheimer’s speaks volumes about his character. At 100 years old, Art continues to inspire all who know him. A true member of the Greatest Generation. Happy Birthday, Art!

My team had the opportunity to attend the annual stakeholder meeting of the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative in Pasco County, where they heard firsthand about the important work being done to deliver reliable, affordable energy and strengthen infrastructure across our region. It was a valuable opportunity to engage with local leaders and stakeholders dedicated to serving their communities and ensuring a resilient energy future.

Additionally, my team had the privilege of attending the graduation ceremony at Victory High School in New Port Richey, celebrating the remarkable achievements of students in recovery who are working tirelessly to build healthier, brighter futures. Their resilience, determination, and commitment to personal growth are truly inspiring, and this milestone reflects the strength it takes to overcome challenges and pursue lasting success.

Constituent Corner
I recently received this message from a constituent after my team arranged a Capitol tour for her.
One of your assistants, Andrea, was incredibly kind to acquire a wheelchair for my husband, Larry, and escorted us throughout the Rayburn and Capitol buildings. We would like to personally acknowledge her and the great effort she made in assisting my husband at the Capitol. She made it possible for him to continue our tour and she brought great credit to you and your office. Thank you very much!
This is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. Also, if you are planning a trip to Washington, DC please let us know 90 days in advance so we can help make the most of your visit. We are here to serve you! |
