Dear Friend,
In the wake of the Alabama Supreme Court ruling last month, I want you to know that I remain committed to fighting for reproductive rights and to protecting the legality of fertility treatment including in vitro fertilization (IVF) in the state of Illinois and throughout our nation.
IVF has been instrumental for millions of Americans who have used the treatment to start or grow their families. However, due to the ruling in Alabama, many Americans have had to worry about their family’s future, as their ability to utilize IVF is under threat.
Since this misguided ruling, I have been doing everything I can to fight for the families, including cosponsoring the Access to Family Building Act. This bill would prevent states from limiting people’s rights to receive fertility care, including IVF. To further reproductive rights more generally, I also signed a letter pushing insurers to come into compliance with the Affordable Care Act and cover all approved forms of contraception and birth control.
This Congress, 195 House Republicans voted against legal contraception and 124 House Republicans have cosponsored the Life at Conception Act, which would threaten the right to IVF. Additionally, in the House, Republicans voted unanimously against restoring Roe v. Wade. In the Senate, Republicans similarly blocked the Access to Family Building Act. As your representative, I will continue to fight back against threats to reproductive health care.
It is an honor to represent you and, as always, my office is here to work for you. Please do not hesitate to contact my office at any of the numbers listed below.
Sincerely,
Bill Foster Member of Congress
